Can I give 10 STARS??
We have just returned from our 11th trip to the Tree houses and it still provides the same unbelievably relaxed environment for us adults and all the excitement that the kids have come to love. We have stayed at other "rainforest" and wilderness accommodation on the Tablelands before but nothing compares to The Canopy. I even chose the Bower House for my 40th birthday 3 years ago. David and Sharon are so welcoming and provide excellent information about the rainforest and its inhabitants. Everything on their website is exactly what you see and the sounds and smell of the rainforest are instantaneously relaxing. No phones (mobile), no people, no stress. Do yourself a favour... JUST GO THERE:)

Relaxing with possums..
Great treehouse, perfectly clean, all amenities provided within the house except for WiFi (no network service beside Telstra which is really poor anyway).. Not much to do but very enjoyable for a short getaway in a rainforest retreat and you can always drive a short distance for a swim at the waterfalls.. Peaceful beside possums and wild turkeys coming every evening onto your balcony.. Beautiful parrots in the morning, you can feed them all, that's why they're coming around for.. And probably the most interesting detail of all is that there is no mosquitoes at all.. for real!!

Rainforest experience
We stayed for 2 nights to have a taste of the rainforest during a trip to the Great Barrier Reef. We had an amazing time. The pole-houses are incredible and very well equipped. The owners are very helpful, but discrete - there if you need them, but keeping out of your way if you don't. It is difficult to pick one highlight, but the possums have to be up there! Politely joining us for dinner, they were very entertaining. Pademelons and numerous birds fed around the balcony at breakfast, and we fed the turtles at teatime. Chilling in the hammock listening to the sounds of the forest was relaxing, and one of our group had a massage on the balcony which she recommended. There are lots of attractions within an easy drive, including the Millaa Millaa Falls. We had a wonderful break here, Thank You!

A good spot to be...
We stayed in the Bower House which looks over a cleared paddock and to the distance back up to the highway from Millaa Millaa to Malanda. The house is an absolutely beautiful pole home with all the mod cons and is fully self-contained. The bedroom upstairs is open on a mezzanine floor with a bathroom (shower only) so not that private and at night you can see the lights from cars on the highway which is not overly annoying but didn't quite fit the mental picture of being isolated in a dark rainforest. There are 2 bedrooms downstairs, and a bathroom with a spa.The hosts were very friendly for the brief times we see them and have a passion for not only nature but also for all of the little details in the house which was very well stocked and very clean (not an easy feat in the rainforest and not sure if this is because the Bower House was not surrounded by rainforest as other reviews have mentioned the Treehouses were mouldy which must be an ongoing challenge!).There are walking tracks which are fairly short but be warned ¿¿¿ the cassowary is in the forest so take the umbrella in the event that you meet. The highlight of the Bower House was the view ¿¿¿ unlike the Treehouses ¿¿¿ we had a view over the paddock across the creek and up to the highway which was especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset when the birds would fly in for a feed. The King Parrots will sit on your arm and eat seed, the possums visit at night and the most amazing of all, Hogan, the resident cassowary visited us each morning (but no feeding or trying to touch cassowary unless you are on a death wish and looking for a kickboxing match!).The location is very convenient for trips around the tablelands, especially the upper tablelands to the many waterfalls, Lake Eacham and Lake Barrine. Malanda Township has a fantastic butcher, local produce and bottle shop. Also keep an eye out for the beautiful local handmade soaps from Patty Flynn. There are slices on them in the bathrooms and you can buy at reception or via the internet. These soaps are now a permanent fixture in our home and also serve as a memory of the wonderful Canopy Tree House in Malanda. We would definately recommend The Canopy Treehouses for something different and a place you can relax peacefully for a few days with wildllife experiences.

Enjoyable unique experience
We recently stayed 3 nights in one of the canopy houses. The absolute highlight for us were the birds, the wallabies and the view from the living area. Possums were cute also but somewhat demanding and left a lot of mess on the balcony. We spent a bit of time exploring the rainforest but not as much as we planned due to leeches attacking us. I'm not sure if it was the weather or the path we took but they were everywhere, too many for us city folk to handle. I would say don't be deterred as they are found in any rainforest but be prepared. The owners lent us some gumboots which helped a lot. Also it would be wise to bring some light colored pants so you can see them when they start climbing up your legs. Long thick socks would also be a good idea. The owners are very nice and very helpful. They gave us some really good tips on things to see in the greater area. The canopy houses are comfortable. There is some room for improvement in the cleanliness. I would say they were more country rustic than luxury accommodation but they had all the basics and were certainly unique. If you are the sort of person that loves finding a frog in the shower and negotiating with a hungry possum then this is the place for you! If you are not this is still something you should experience at leat once in your life. All in all it was a great experience we won't forget in a hurry. We stayed 3 nights but 2 would probably be enough if you are on a tight budget.
