Park Hotel

Shandon, Dungarvan - Map
"Suited me fine"
The Park Hotel worked well as a base for ambling into Dungarvan's town centre - a five to seven minute walk at most - and then to do various walks in the area, if that's your interest. Certainly is mine. The hotel overlooks the Coligan River. Has some wear to it, not from negligence, but age and use. For me I'd prefer not to be in an austere environment. It's clean and relaxing and that's the main thing. The bar/restaurant has an easygoing, friendly vibe. I was probably (in my mid-forties) one of the younger of the hotel guests to frequent. Other guests were folks in on business or passing through. Staff in bar, at front desk and on floors were pleasant and helpful. They gave directions, suggestsions for places to eat, called cabs - all of it. There were three staff in the bar (whose names I didn't get - bad for that) who were really friendly and happy to share thoughts on living in Dungarvan, suggest a local beer, or a place to check out in the town. On that: I'd pass along Merry's Gastropub (1 Church St.) for food and drink (great service) and Gourmet House (3 Grattan Square), a cafe/lunch counter (at least I was there for lunch) with fabulous food. Busy but well-served. Great coffee. Oh and be sure to try Dungarvan Brewing Company. I particularly liked their Copper Coast red.

Lawlors Hotel

Bridge Street, Dungarvan - Map
"Great location, not a bad hotel"
The ground floor of the hotel was lovely - light and airy, with lots of sofas for people to sit and dissect their adventures together before leaving. Breakfast was good, and later on the bar seemed friendly and fun. Speaking of the bar, there was a lot of noise from the street and the hotel bar. There were a lot of revellers on the Friday night, who were mainly friendly, but gathered by the front door to smoke and chat, and this was directly under our window. Another issue is that everything in the accommodation part of the hotel seemed tired at best. Dark decor in the rooms, and a sort of old-people's-home feel to the place. It was a pity, as it seemed so promising when we arrived! There were a lot of positives, though - as well as the location right near the harbour and centre of town, the staff were all lovely, and I'd still recommend this to friends wanting to spend time in Dungarvan. However, it's definitely in need of modernisation, and it's very noisy on weekend nights if you have the window open. Don't book this if you're looking for a luxury boutique hotel; do book it if you want somewhere central to stay - especially if you like a good Irish breakfast.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
