The Stanley is an old hotel, and it wears that fact like a badge of honor. In some ways, it's wonderful. There is rich, dark wood adorning the entire property; they have an old fashion, brass, rotary dial phone in the lobby; the bar one floor up from the lobby is opulent, for example.
The down side is that it's not up-to-date regarding amenities. For example, everything in the hotel low, which was likely fine when people were smaller. I'm tall--6'3"/190cm--but that's not super tall, and the top of the bed's mattress didn't reach the bottom of my knee. The bathroom sink only came up to my mid-thigh. The hallways feel tight with low archways.
Perhaps more importantly, while each room has an air conditioner, temperature is controlled centrally, not in each room. The unit in my room didn't work well. I spent a few very hot nights. It was cooler outside than inside, but the windows are locked.
Putting aside all the foregoing, the fact that saves the Stanley and makes it deserving of 4 stars is the staff. They are very accommodating. I spoke to them about my warm room, and after two nights, they moved me to a larger room with a great A/C. The staff seems to have genuine concern for the comfort of the guests.
So while the hotel's old world charm can cut both ways, I still recommend the Stanley for the reasons above, as well as their lovely heated pool, their excellent health and fitness facilities, but most of all because of the excellent staff.

Meticulous service with smiling staff! I felt pampered after 17 days in Madagascar. The hotel concierge made arrangements for very affordable day trips to major highlights of Nairobi. The food was delicious. Lovely pool and lounge areas to hang out. They also kept track of my flights, making sure I left in time for the airport.

This is my second time staying at the Voyager, and I have enjoyed both stays. The first time was at a time when there were fewer guests and this past stay was during a sold out Easter weekend. Both stays were peaceful and nice. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful and even with a full house I always found pool chairs, table at dinner, etc. In fact the hotel had special events for Easter which enhanced the stay. Overall, a positive experience. I particularly enjoyed the Swahili lounge with the swinging beds and the choice of swimming pools. The wifi is strong and works throughout the hotel. The beach is nice, but unfortunately at this location the tide gets really low during the morning making it impossible to swim in the ocean. If you want more time swimming at the beach, this is not the place. Lastly, the hotel has resident cats that roam around tables during meal times. As someone with a severe cat phobia, I found this disturbing and uncomfortable. For these reasons, I'll probably look for another coast hotel ny next visit to Mombasa, but I'd recommend Voyager to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable beachfront hotel.

Our family had a wonderful time and would return. Their website accurately depicts their accommodations. The location allows you to view hippos and crocs right from the property and all of the tents are facing the river for a nice view. The food was good to very good. The tents are clean and in good repair. The employees are friendly and want to be helpful, for example I unknowingly dropped some money on the floor and our waiter spotted it and quickly returned it to me. Our game driver John went out of his way to make sure that we spotted the big 5 plus so much more. It is a mix between a tented camp and a resort, it has a larger feel to it but that suited our needs perfectly.

We spent a week in the Masai Mara. The Serena lodge is the heart of the Masai Mara conservancy which is the best kept part of the entire area. The roads are better, the animals are protected and it is the perfect destination for game drives. The Serena lodge is the only place to stay in the area and there really is no other place you would want to go. It is located a few km from the airstrip (yes you do want to fly in, don't drive from Nairobi) on top of a high mesa that looks out dozens of miles in all directions. The property is amazing with a pool, workout facilities and an excellent spa. The staff is exceptionally friendly and accommodating and you will want for nothing. Look out your window each morning and see everything from baboons to buffalo to antelope and giraffes. They have many Land Cruisers with pop tops for game drives and the animals really are incredible. Highly recommend the balloon ride. The master pilot, Dan, is incredible and the vistas are amazing. Not cheap but worth the adventure. On Wednesday night there is an excellent talk by local researchers from the Hyena study camp which is fascinating as well. I can't imagine wanting to stay anywhere else.
