Hôtel Des Mille Collines

"All Smiles at Mille Collines"
I stayed at Mille Collines at the beginning and end of a (work) trip to Rwanda. The hotel - which as most reviewers will note, was a refuge during the 1994 genocide - is an oasis amidst the bustle of Kigali. The staff are unfailingly polite and helpful and made staying there a real pleasure. The bedrooms are large and well-appointed, many of a view down into the centre of Kigali. The common areas are decorated with works of local artists (which are for sale from their galleries) and the pool and pool bar are lovely places to unwind, grab a quick bite and go for a swim. You can also have a massage in an area near the pool, though I didn't have time to try this. The breakfast buffet was outstanding. Many people come to stay in a piece of Rwanda's history but this hotel stands as a fantastic place to stay in its own right. Highly recommend.

5 Swiss Hotel - Kigali Hotels

5 Swiss Hotel

"Lovely quiet hotel in great part of Kigali"
The 5Swiss Hotel is quiet, relatively small and very charming little spot, located in easy walking distance of the old city centre, and literally 5 minutes from the famous Milles Collines. The rooms are small but very clean and comfortable, with a good shower (lots of hot water). Food is tasty and relatively inexpensive, and the staff are young, energetic and friendly. A quaint little bar in the patio/ garden area is a great spot for quiet drink after a busy day, and prices are reasonable - particularly for the beer (try the Muezig, a local German knock-off). One word of caution - Kigali has become a sprawling city that is actually a conglomerate of about 7 or 8 hills, each with its own more or less self-contained neighbourhood, complete with attractions, restaurants, bars and coffee shops. While it is one of the few African cities where you can pretty much walk anywhere, walking from one hill neighbourhood to the next is not advisable. What looks like a short distance on the map can, due to winding roads, end up being a 30 minute walk. Taxis can be reasonable, though haggling can also be tiresome, and every driver will try to oversell and get you to essentially hire him for a few hours and multiple stops - negotiating on the street is a drag, unless you like that type of thing. Best to get a few trusted drivers from the hotel, and negotiate with them, rather than on the street. Beware also the magazine/ newspaper vendors around 5Swiss - a bit pushy but just smile!

"Nice hotel cole to town"
The hotel is very good, except it doesn't have air conditioner. Also, the breakfast is good but it needs a little variety. Other than that, everything is good.

"Great hotel staff"
I recently spent a week in the city and found a home away from home. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The hotel is a perfect place to relax after a busy day. It is a great place to have dinner guest as the restaurant does a great job with both food and service. I will look forward to my next stay.

"Great hotel. I really enjoyed my stay."
The staff was really accomodating. This was my first time to Rwanda, and I was here for a business trip. They were patient and answered any and all questions I had. The only few minor critiques I had were related to the lack of variety of food available. Luckily there are a lot of cool restaurants in Kigali. The other problem was the business center not operating fully. We couldn't print anything, and had to contract outside for this service. Again not a big deal, and they were working to fix this issue. The Wi-Fi in general was EXCELLENT though. I never had trouble connecting and I could FaceTime with those back home easily. I would definitely stay here again.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Kinazi hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
