Good stay, hotel dated but very quiet and peaceful. Lovely setting and great staff. Food isn't the best. But if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful trip with a great jungle setting and lots to look at and do then his is the place. My kids loved it. Very authentic. So much to see. Loved the cenote. That was the best to snorkel in. The water was so clear and I got to swim with a manatee for free. How many resorts have manatee's? It was great.

Our first visit to Barcelo Palace Riveria Maya with teenage son. Amazing vacation. 5 Barcelo hotels side by side. Stayed in the Barcelo Maya Place Deluxe. Property was beautiful, meticulously maintained, excellent service, gigantic clean pools. Lots of families, middle age and some older guests. Beach is gorgeous - there are plenty of chairs and palm trees so that you always have choices of where to sit.
Ate at French, Brazilian and Caribe restaurants - dinner each night on veranda overlooking the ocean. Also ate at Buffets for breakfast and lunch. Food was 4 out of 5 on an all inclusive scale. Tipping not mandatory; we tipped all servers at resort because they earn minimal $ and work hard to provide great service.
There is a small mall flea market on the property. A bus transports guests throughout properties all day.
Reef at hotel with lots of sea life - sea turtles, rays, tropical fish. Husband and son went on dives from dock on property and saw Moray Eel, Baracuda, Lion Fish, etc. Free non-motorized water sports. Also jet skis, etc. No seaweed.
Premium package has ocean front room and nice extra perks - one perk that we liked was a $40/person value each day which included an amazing spa. The fitness center is new with state of art equipment.
Room comfortable, clean, awesome in many ways. No rollaway, but 2 couches with linens. Free wi fi (premium?) Very quiet accommodations. Amazing view.
Weather perfect 5 days May 21-26 - sunny hot.

Upon arrival, they could not find our reservation, blaming Expedia, but eventually figured something out. The facility is nice, with nice amenities, however our first room had non-working air conditioning, on day 2, they fixed it. Beds were not great. Buffet food was good, ala carte restaurants were great. Not the best resort, but decent value.

There was a little initial confusion as we were booked at the Barceló Maya Beach Resort. As it turns out there are 4 different "hotels" in the Maya Beach Resort. The Caribe, the Maya Beach, The Colonial and the Tropical. From the booking on Expedia we thought we would in the Maya Beach, but were instead in the Tropical. The Tropical is actually a newer section and you are allowed to use all the amenities of the entire complex, so it made little difference in my opinion which building I was in. The only problem was it created a little confusion in finding where I needed to go (and few anxious minutes thinking perhaps something had not gone right with the reservation), and also delayed our pickup for the airport (we still had 2 hours to spare so that wasn't a problem either.)

My experience at this hotel was good. The room was clean and tidy. The staff was absolutely wonderful. They were extremely accommodating and very friendly. The hotel itself was nice with extremely close access to the beach (it's basically the front yard). It was quiet and nicely secluded. I must note there are no TV's in the rooms, which is fine, however a radio would have been nice, especially since there's also no WiFi access in the rooms. If you need to use any device that requires WiFi you must go to the restaurant to do so. If you're there for romance only, this is the perfect place.

Very nice hotel location. Beautiful room.
Nice staff. Some need training on keeping the hotel premises clean, and avoid the "it is not my job" syndrome (they prefer to leave dirty things behind than collecting them). Not a fit star service.
There is a dangerous reef on the right side of the beach, in shallow waters. Got hurt by sharp rocks. Staff did not mention upon arrival.
Prices here are not "mexican" but at par with top hotels in America or US...strange compared to other nice hotels in Mexico. Indeed all prices are in US dollars and you are required to pay in US$...in Mexico, a country with its own pesos.

Just south of Puerto Aventuras, Xpu-Ha’s broad, powdery, white-sand beach is widely regarded among the peninsula’s most beautiful. There’s plenty of room to string up a hammock and relax, sunbathe, or swim in the surf.
