Perhaps because we had come from two nights stay previously at the outstanding Intercontinental Palacio Das Cardosas, where guest services was impeccable, or perhaps it was because we arrived on a Sunday..., but we found the services at the Yeatman below mediocre. Certainly not what we had expected of a five star hotel / establishment of the Yeatman's stature. The Conceige and housekeeping teams were excellent, but others were not very helpful nor proactive to help. Asking for ideas / recommendations were mostly answered with a rhetorical question. Despite that, the hotel and its grounds are stunning and so was our guest room, which had a large balcony overlooking Porto and the river.

I travelled in a group of 7, including 2 young children.
The rooms were lovely, our overlooked the beach and the pool.
Rooms have a mini bar which is reasonable priced.
Jorge in the restaurant was outstanding, he gave excellent food and wine recommendations and he was great with my young children (some thing other hotels struggle with). When my daughter would only eat a cheese sandwich, without hesitation he made it happen, his juggling skills had her amazed, she still talks of the magician waiter!!!
Indoor and outdoor pools were heated and very clean and they provide pool towels free of charge.
The only downside was the hairdryer in the rooms was a bit dated, but this is irrelevant due to all the other excellent things I could say about this hotel.
The hotel is in a quiet location, perfect for a relaxing, calm but break, however its easy to get into Porto or the local town Espinho.
I would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

I was concerned that the hotel was too far out of the centre of Oporto and that we would need to travel in every day and evening, but in the end I was more than happy with my choice. The rooms were everything that you would hope for and expect of a good quality business hotel with the pool as an added bonus. The food was good quality and varied. As an example, a cook produced omelettes and eggs to order. Coffee at breakfast was excellent, and the buffet everything that one would expect in terms of variety and quality. Travel into Oporto by taxi was reasonably priced at around 11 Euros, the walk is long but doable. There is a ferry across the river from which a tram or bus can take you easily to the northern beaches or into town. Alternately just walk down the hill towards the Marina, there was a music festival and there seems to be many more planned.

Hotel was easy to drive to and park. Then walked or took bus to waterfront of Vila Nova de Gaia and Porto. Room was surprisingly quiet although beside busy highway. The room and bathroom were modern and well done but not spacious.

The staff are friendly and helpful. Handed out maps, advised best places to visit. etc. We asked about getting there and they were quick to respond.
To get there you can take a taxi or use the metro. We were told taxi could be around 30 euros. We didn't use the taxi from the airport, but all taxi's are metered - there maybe additional charge for suitcases.
We used the metro, about 9 for 3 of us airport to hotel. easy to use, metro staff are on hand to help you negotiate buying tickets on the machine and directing you to the right platforms. Take Airport to Trindade, change there to go onto Joao De Deus.
From hotel take metro to Sao Bento - you can get connections to most places from there.
BTW ask anyone for directions they will tell you the right directions but everything is only 10 or 15 minutes away which could be half an hour.
The hotel is actually on the Gaia side.
You can walk from the hotel across the bridge to Porto. About half an hour :-)
Or from the Gaia side take the cable car down to the river front.
Most of the nicer and more expensive places are on the Porto side of the river.
Most of the tourists spots are also on the Porto side.

Great hotel for all. The whole place was newer up to date and modern. Fastest WIFI we've had in any Hotel so far. if you like shopping its next to a mall. The whole place was surprisly quiet for being next to a shopping center. We were about 5 minutes by taxi to Porto center. Close to all the Port winery's.Over all great experience.

This hotel is only 4 years old and still in pristine condition. The decor is to die for. Modern, mixed with touches of french furniture. Stunning. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Super bedroom.
The hotel seems to be in the middle of nowhere about 20/30 mins drive from Porto but since the bus stops virtually outside and for 2/3 euros it really isn't worth driving in.
The only drawback is the restaurant, as we had to book early in the day to eat in the evening. Not sure whether it was the time of year (September) but it was very quiet. We came back one evening and couldn't eat but the staff drove us to another local restaurant where we had a great meal and good wine, especially the Port!
Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Pros: great hotel in a very quiet neighborhood. About 20-30 minutes from downtown but it is worth it. Just 5 min walk from the train station. Fantastic lobby and bar. Great breakfast. Quiet floors.
Cons: The smoking area just outside the lobby is annoying. Impossible to take a breath of fresh close to the door. AC is noisy.

Facing Porto across the Douro River, Vila Nova de Gaia is the port wine capital of the world. Over 50 companies are based here, dedicated to ageing and blending the wine that is Porto’s namesake. Port lodges, with their characteristic red roofs, dominate the city centre. Visitors can take guided tours to see how port is made and sample different varieties.
