Loved that this hotel felt quaint with an upscale flair. There is a nice stream of water flowing next to hotel with benches that provides a calming and serene ambiance, and its just a 5 minute walk to excellent dining and entertainment options. Definitely would stay again, makes a perfect "stay-cation".

I always stay at the Townsend Hotel because it is charming, well-run, clean and comfortable..... but not in January.........The room was soooo cold and the thermostat, even when turned up to 76, did not heat the room past 69 degrees.
Also, the restaurant, although upgraded for lunch with many new items beautifully presented, does not compare for dinner with the multitude of restaurants within blocks of the hotel. We wanted to remain in the hotel for dinner for 20 of us who came to Detroit for a funeral because of the weather. However, the absence of good vegetarian, chicken and beef choices at affordable prices, as well as an interesting menu for children, sent us walking to the steak house which, by the way, was very expensive but also had good soups, hamburgers and delicious appetizers (Ahi tuna, calamari, etc.) of large enough proportions to create dinner.
And, lastly, Four Star hotels, including the Ritz Carlton, have coffee makers in their rooms for their guests. The Townsend has not kept up with the times. The coffee bar in the lobby is incomplete and the available sweet rolls and fruit cups unappealing and expensive.

We stayed New Year's Eve and had a great experience. The hotel was very clean and seemed newly remodeled. We appreciated the no party policy the hotel had especially considering it was New Year's Eve. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchenette was well supplied and would have been perfect had I been inclined to cook. The breakfast the next morning was very good.

Hotel room was spacious and kitchen space was convenient. Breakfast was nicely done but need more space for the number of guests. It's too bad only queen size beds available, would be nice to have king or double choices available. Bed also seemed small for a queen...more like a full. Also, we could hear person walking in room above us.

The hotel room and staff were great! And very close to restaurants and The Palace. We stayed the night to avoid a long drive home after a Pistons game. Other than being able to hear a lot of talking from the hallway and the hotel construction before 10am on a Sat it was perfect. I must note that our room was right next to the elevator and was asked by staff at check in if that was ok. Next time I might second think that decision. :-)

I really enjoyed my stay a Somerset Inn. The staff was fabulous. They went above and beyond to ensure that we were completely satisfied with our stay. I was celebrating my birthday and noticed that the mall and restaurant were in very close proximity to the hotel. This was very convenient.

Troy is a business and shopping destination in suburban Detroit. It is home to the exclusive Somerset Collection shopping center. Auburn Hills is home to the NBA’s Detroit Pistons and the WNBA’s Detroit Shock. Both teams play at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
