The hotel overall was very nice and comfortable. The staff for the most part were friendly and very helpful. It's a shame I did not use the leisure spa, pool, and gym as there was a lot to do in Newcastle. Keeping in mind that it a very old Victorian age (I believe) hotel, it was a bit noisy at times from the trains as well as outside night life. It was a nice touch they included ear plugs. Still, it had a romantic feel that my fiancee enjoyed. The rooms were nice and spacious as well as the shower.

We came to stay at the Best Western Roker hotel in Sunderland just for one night whilst visiting family in the area. We were met by helpful, pleasant and friendly staff, who made us feel extremely welcome. Our room was beautiful, with a very comfortable bed, and tasteful, relaxing decor. Breakfast was delicious, and bar prices very reasonable. We will definitely be booking there again! 5*

The beaches on the North Sea coast attract visitors during warmer months in Sunderland. Cultural sites include Hylton Castle, dating back to the 14th century, and the National Glass Centre, where admission is free. Despite its smaller size, the city has a robust nightlife with many bars and clubs near the city center. More than 100 shops can be found at Bridges Shopping Centre, also located in the city centre.
