The hotel is in a great position to enjoy the harbour as well as the town. It is fine for a short stay and the room (deluxe) was very spacious and with a superb view over the harbour. Dinner service was excellent and the food a delight but was very surprised to see almost the same menu two nights running. The breakfast was very disappointing given the rating of this hotel. It was lacking in variety and imagination and the service was really not up to standard especially with the seemingly inevitable 'self toasting' device that seemed to take forever and there was only one of them which led to queues. So, in summary, a pleasant place to spend a night or two but not somewhere for a longer stay despite it being so well appointed and spacious.

Booked this hotel for my wife's birthday for 2 nights (Friday and Saturday night). Initially there were no spa treatments available, however the hotel were able to make a space for my wife to have a 55 minute treatment. The hotel has lovely grounds, although we didn't venture out much due to the cold. The spa area was not busy, which was a plus for us, as we liked the quietness, it was almost like having the spa to ourselves. The staff were fantastic, and on arrival, we had been upgrade to a superior room, which was very spacious and complimented with a Happy Birthday placard. All the little bits that make a stay memorable. The room temperature was OK, but I can imagine it being either too hot or too cold with different temperatures outside as there didn't seem to be a way to change that. The meals were very nice and breakfast was plentiful. Parking was excellent, and I managed to park literally outside the front door throughout our stay.

Stayed for a long weekend to visit my daughter who is studying at University. Close to shops, restaurants, even cruise ship terminals just across the road. Staff were very nice and always happy to help. We only had breakfast each morning which I couldn't fault, catered for all, hot and cold buffet available. Hotel also provided strollers (push chairs) with a small refundable deposit so I didn't have to bring mine which takes up a lot of room in the car. I will definitely recommend to all family and friends. Had a very comfortable stay. Will be returning in the future.

The Mercure Dolphin is ideally located right in the centre of Southampton, which was great for me as I was attending a rock concert at 1865 club just a few minutes walk away. For anybody wanting easy, comfortable, basic accomodation in the centre, then I would definitely recommend this hotel. Unfortunately there are no leisure facilities here, just the restaurant and bar. Free wi-fi throughout, 24 hours reception. The room we had was a standard twin room which was very comfortable, teas and coffee was provided, only downside was that there was no fridge in the room to keep own food in and The Novotel not far away has fridges in the rooms (also part of Accor Hotels). The bathroom light was very dim and should've been brighter, but besides that the room was very quiet and the staff made my request for a quiet room at end of the corridor. If you don't want to spend almost £14 on breakfast in the hotel, there are so many cafes and restaurants close by who do a much cheaper and good breakfast and a Lidl budget supermarket just a stroll away. Buses to and from Southampton Central train station leave from just opposite the hotel. I would definitely choose to stay in this hotel again.

Hotel was better than expected and very conveniently situated. Motorway noise was quieter than expected too. Greeted by very pleasant receptionist chap. However ....... didn't appreciate being awakened at 4.10 am by cleaning staff having a very loud conversation outside my room. I opened my door to tell them to be quiet as we had young children in our party and a dog that would start barking at the disturbance ..... very thoughtless .... even though sorry was mentioned!

Set on a broad inlet, Southampton is the largest city in southern England and cruise capital of Northern Europe. Some of the world’s largest liners are based here and many more visit regularly. The centre is modern but retains several historic buildings, two excellent art galleries, two theatres, plus good eating, drinking and shopping. Ocean Village leisure complex at the marina features a new museum of aviation.
