"Convenient and very good."
We stayed in a number of hotels in our recent tour of Tuscany. Hotel Athena was the least charming of them but at the same time, we did not expect that of the hotel. It is conveniently located to the centre of Sienna (10 minute walk) and being inside the walls and with ample parking, it was a perfect solution for visiting Sienna. The hotel is more modern than others we stayed at but it felt a little long in the tooth. The room was nice and we certainly appreciated having a full bath-tub (the only place we stayed in our 10-day trip that had one.) There's a nice patio bar for guests to enjoy though the chips were stale and my first drink had a bug in it. We asked to be away from the elevators for noise reasons and were assured our room was well away from them and it was around the corner and far enough away that we didn't think twice. But lying in bed later that evening, all I could hear was the elevator shaft that was obviously behind our thin hotel room wall. So a bit disappointed with that as it made falling asleep a little harder. We did not have breakfast included in our Expedia rate but just as good as I had a look and it was a warm stuffy room with an average looking "hot" breakfast available. So overall...great location, average hotel. Served it's purpose with some disappointments.

"Central, pretty, great compared to Italian hotels"
Bear in mind that Italian hotels in general will lack the comfort and even service that American style hotels offer. Good: - Very central and a short walk to anywhere - Very clean and well maintained - Superb staff - friendly in general but Barbara in particular was very friendly and helped fill out the payment slip for the parking ticket. This doesn't seem like much, but I've been in 4 other Italian hotels and even though the staff speak English, they are very difficult to communicate with, partly due to language partly due to Italian attitude and Barbara was a breath of fresh air compared to others. - There is parking but only about 5 or 6 cars fit so you might want to book your place in advance. Bad: - Breakfast is lacking any hot items. It's just an ok breakfast to get you started, but could be improved a lot with slight additions - No elevator - although they will help you carry your bags upstairs - The key is the old fashioned style which you can leave at the reception but the safe also has a key so you kind of have to carry it with you - The rooms are small but you really don't need a big room. What I disliked was that tiles were on the floor, and no carpet, which makes the room seem colder. But the room was satisfactory and this may be a plus on a hot summer day. The view was just ok. The TV is small and only has Italian channels, having a channel in English would be great. Overall, an excellent hotel for Italian standards and for the price I would recommend it

"A different stay in an old Monastery."
This was different and not quite what I was expecting. Turns out we booked the cheaper old monk's accommodation which was rustic but quite comfortable. Do not expect typical hotel amenities - this is a bit like camping but in a dry warm place with some comforts. The amazing thing is the age of the place and the fact that we were staying in a room that had been inhabited by the local monks for centuries. Breakfast was the usual continental style and was well presented and adequate. You can book higher quality rooms here, but I urge you to give this a try - and it wont break your credit card. Be careful to check what the arrangement with stairs is. Our room which had 2 bedrooms and slept 4 had one room up a steep staircase in a loft. OK for us but some may struggle.

Siena is calling — find the perfect hotel

Everyone wants to score a deal on travel, but price is just one factor to consider when booking an unforgettable hotel. Whether you’re visiting family, attending a conference or taking a well-earned vacation in Siena, having an awesome experience should be a no-brainer.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Siena hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
