"Great experience"
We were a bit concerned about the location, as we had no car, but the owners were kind enough to pick us up and return is to Toya train station. And we were glad we decided to stay at the hotel. Room was spacious, overlooking the lake (though fireworks are remote) and with a good bed. Breakfast was nice, though western style. We also ordered some things for dinner. Reasonable pricing and tasty. Staff was very helpful and kind.

Noboribetsu Grand Hotel

Noboribetsu Onsen 154, Noboribetsu - Map
"Beautiful old hotel that doesn't feel old at all"
The Grand Hotel immediately lives up to its name when you enter the hugely grand lobby. I booked kind of late, so there were only smoking rooms left, but the room did not smell at all. We had a traditional Japanese-style room. It was very spacious with multiple places to read and relax. The dinner was buffet-style (I think the hotel also does in-room dining, but that was all booked up). The buffet was very good! I'm not much of a buffet fan, but this one was great. Freshly made sushi, soba noodles and ramen assembled on the spot, choices for kids as well. There was a really good pasta dish that they prepared right inside a huge cheese wheel. Everything was tasty. The onsen itself was very nice. It had four different types of water. The iron bath was my favourite. The open-air, outdoor bath didn't have much of a view though. The second day we were there, the men's and women's sides swapped, which was nice in that it let you see both sides, since they are not the same. One side has a waterfall. In the hotel's photos, there's a shot of father and son sitting underneath long streams of water; I did not see that while I was there. The hotel was easy to get to. All of the onsens are more or less within walking distance of each other. You just take the JR train to Noboribetsu and hop on the one city bus that goes up the mountain. The Grand was one block away from the station. Hell Valley was also walking distance from the hotel, and was a beautiful hike.

"Excellent staff but onsen was not so good"
The overall experience was good. The staff were helpful and nice. The breakfast was great. However, there were derbits in the onsen and a couple of us felt tichy afterwards, not sure whether it was due to the derbits or not. The hotel was located on the hill and quite quiet. It was a good experience to unwind yourself

Great experience. Very good service provided by the friendly staff. Even though the building is only a short 10-min walk from the main strip, shuttle service is available to take the guests to the JR station and to the main strip. A full 8-course breakfast and a full 10-course dinner are included per night stayed. Great value for money.

They have lockers at the entrance where you access the gondola so you dont need to carey your gear around. Rental might be a little more expensive than hirafu city centre but the premium is worthwhile for convenience. Little dining choice though

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
