"Nice Hotel"
Nice hotel. I enjoyed everything except that they did not have air conditioning like the advertising states. Not that is needed with the nice weather, but just a thought. Overall I was satisfied.

"A beautiful and delightful surprise"
We came to Villa Blanca as a recommendation for a place to stay half way from San Jose to La Fortuna. We had no idea how wonderful our one day stay would be. We took the nature hike with a knowledgeable guide and that was inspirational to say the least. The grounds and views were unbelievably beautiful including a full rainbow over the valley at dusk. Our casita was cozy with the fireplace lit at night. The staff was among the best and most attentive and welcoming we've ever experienced. And the food...oh my goodness! Gourmet!! We will return and the next time it will be for a lot longer than one night. And did I say...all of this while being in an ecological preserve unmatched...my name is John Jump. I cannot recommend this resort highly enough! Ps: don't miss the chapel

"This is an out of the way resort.... "
Staff very accommodating and friendly. Restaurant on premises - good food for the value. Buffet breakfast included in night stay and the use of the hot springs. Now that is a different story...this is not for the weak or disabled person. The walk to and from the hot springs is at least 2kms return. Terrain is steep and the last portion of the walk is very rough and narrow steps and not too many hand rails. The stonework around the pools is rough - watch you do not stub your toes...ouch. Alternative - check the schedule of the shuttle which can take you part of the way and pick you up. We were not aware of this until after we had walked down and back. I think the staff should have pointed out the many signs on the boards displayed in the reception area. Rooms could have hangers in the closet area.....shelving in the bathroom to hold your toiletries/hairdryer and shaving equipment. The front doors and the bathroom doors groan ad creak very noisily due to swollen wood...rather annoying at night. The rain and wind blew water into the front entrance door so that when we awoke the floor was wet for about 1 meter in.

"Tent cabins poorly sealed."
We'd recommend, but with caveats. Ok, it's a tent...and it IS magical to be in the tent cabin seeing monkeys in the trees and hearing the night sounds. This memory will last. It is NOT magical that the tent isn't completely sealed, so we found a big spider (2.5 inches, and a large body) the first night. Killed it, but spent a poor night worrying about its friends. I'm not squeamish, but spiders are a bit scary to me. Found 3/4 inch X 2 foot wide gaps without screens surrounded the bathroom windows. (Not obvious at first glance) A tent SHOULD be completely sealed. Mine at home are. It also seemed like 'cleaning' only applied to the sink, toilet, etc...not much change with the floors (swept, probably...cleaned? No.) I'd think twice before staying again. However, it is pretty special to stay in the rainforest and we did see some wildlife. The cabins aren't on the river, they're up the hill in the forest. Google can confuse you about this. There's a trail to the river. This place seems to specialize in the zip lines and river rafting and the like. They don't feed the birds.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
