The hotel has a very rustic and chill vibe. The hotel staff are very nice and helpful. Black sand beach right at the property. Nice pool. Decent breakfast. Would have been happier with a room on the second floor for view and more privacy. The whole town has a rustic and chill vibe

What can I say to appropriate applaud Banana Azul for the amazing week we spent at their hotel? My husband and I loved every minute of our experience at Banana Azul. The breakfast included each day was delicious and filling. The food in general was incredible, everything was so fresh and full of flavor, I'm actually still dreaming about the ceviche and patacones. We ended up eating most of our meals there because it was just so good. Not to mention they will bring it to you on the beach under your own private palapa! It wasn't just the food that was great either, the drinks were wonderful. Each day there are 2-for-1 drinks for happy hour with two options, it was a fun way to try all their specialty drinks throughout our trip. The best part about the hotel though has to be the staff, from check in to check out everyone was so kind and welcoming. Tariq the bartender was so kind, thoughtful and attentive. His spirit and attitude was infectious everyday! Luis (who also took us on tour through Caribe Fun tours) was so sweet and knowledgeable about Costa Rica and Puerto Viejo. Rina, who checked us in was so kind and helpful as well. I wish I could mention everyone but just know we didn't have one bad experience. If you're looking for a 5-star luxury Marriott or resort type place this probably isn't the place for you, but if you're looking for a friendly, affordable place to relax and enjoy everything the Caribbean has to offer book this place immediately!

This place is really chill and different from many places I have stayed in the past. I have usually stayed in hotels with AC and WIFI and a Phone. Here are my PROs and CONs staying there.
Peaceful jungle seclusion but expect interesting animal sounds in the morning (Monkeys and Some other animal)
Perfect to do a social media detox
The free breakfast is dope and always different and refreshing
Hotel staff is very helpful and nice
Hot water in the shower
The rooms are really nice but not typical its kind like staying on a screened in porch but you'll love it if you enjoy trying different things.
The restaurants nearby are good but pricier than Puerto Viejo
In the Evening make proper travel plans to get around (bike, taxi, rental car or find out the bus schedule which ends early)
The Hotel office closes Early and Opens Late so you are kind of on you own when they are close. (Hurts when you need to make a late night cab call)
It can be noisy so bring ear plugs or just be ready to hear different night sounds.
If you need to be on WIFI for whatever reason WIFI is only available near the office which isn't far from the cabanas.
That's all I got.
