"Great get-away!"
My partner and I spent a few days at The Taconic Hotel in Manchester, VT. The hotel is beautifully decorated with a wide open porch and beautiful grounds with a salt water lap pool. The best part is that the hotel is pet-friendly. We did not bring our dog but it's nice to know we could. My only suggestion to the hotel is that the dog should be at least one year or older. There was an 8-month old Siberian husky that was with an irresponsible owner. (It only takes one!) The owner sat on the porch talking on the phone, oblivious to the puppy that was whining for attention. We would go back in a heartbeat. Dinner at Ponzi Bistro down the road was delicious. The decor is very dated but the service and food were excellent. BYOB.

"Excellent B&B in Williamstown"
Our hosts at the B&B, Donna and Tim, were excellent. The house is beautiful and well maintained. Great breakfast served with other house guests at 8:30 each morning. Our room did not have its own bathroom but we shared a half-bath and full bath, so this was no problem.

"Clean hotel room although dated, friendly staff"
This motel is quite old and shows it everywhere however the room was very clean and comfortable. The beds in our room were pillow top and quite comfortable. The air conditioner was new and worked well. The toilet was new as was the fridge. The motel had a small laundry room and the ice machine was in the same cramped room. Ice machine was very old looking but worked. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They aim to please their guests as far as we could see. The bathroom in our room had a tub and shower with older ceramic tiles like I installed in a bath 45 years ago! They have painted melamine paint on the tiles around the tub area to improve the tub surround area I suspect and the tub area was very clean with fresh silicone bead around the tub and no mildew areas at all. The whole place is a bit tired/old as I mentioned and it was a cheaper motel for the area so our expectations were not too high. You get what you pay for and we were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and friendly staff however the area is a bit sketchy and there were some monthly renters staying at the motel which might make some guests nervous. The free breakfast had little room to stay, however you could bring items back to your room which we did the one of two mornings we were there. There was lots of homo milk, coffee, bagels, toast, mini muffins, orange juice, apples/oranges/bananas and two cereals to choose from, with jam, margarine and cream cheese as well.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
