"Personal trip for 6 nights. Perfect place for us!"
We arrived early around noon from Heathrow expecting just to drop our bags but the staff had our room ready so we were able to check-in early. Moved my son in to college in the middle of this stay, so I requested a smaller room for the remainder of the stay and that was accommodated easily without having to wait for check-out time. The family room was on the back side of the hotel and was much quieter than the double room that faced Old Kent Road. Still the street noise did not bother our sleep. Ozzie's café 2 doors away was a great place for breakfast also! We very much enjoyed our stay at this location and plan to return.

"Lovely quirky building but poor service"
The building from the outside is large and old fashioned, lots of great features instead and quirky decor which we loved. Really handy location 10 minutes from tube station. The hostel had a huge dining room and comfortable lounge area near the front desk to relax in. Our main issue was the lack of organisation as it was not made clear how things worked so we spent a lot of time waiting around and going back and forth to our room. Here is the low down: you have to pay a £10 key deposit and also pay for your towels at the front desk. Towels cost £2 each with a £3 deposit each. When checking out you have to bring your towels down to the front desk to put in the basket before you can get your deposit back. If you order breakfast you have the option of continental (no waiting) or cooked (lots of waiting!) and you have to bring your paperwork with you to say what you have ordered. We ordered cooked and waited 50 minutes before it arrived and when it did it was warm but nice. The issue seems to be that there is only 1 front of house person who checks people's breakfast requests and also goes back and forth to the kitchen. The room was fine for what we paid; bunk bed with a small but functional shower and toilet room. The main issues for us here was the lack of ventilation, it was almost suffocatingly hot and the noise; windows are single pane so it was noisy from traffic noise all night. However it sufficed as we were only there for 1 night.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
