"Great hotel "
Older hotel in a great location on a side street a block or two from Times Square and fabulous restaurants in Hell's Kitchen. 10 -15 minute walk to Central Park. Helpful, friendly staff. Had a minor repair fixed within 20 minutes of reporting it. Pleasant manager's reception nightly. Quiet hotel but can hear the occasional siren outdoors. Comfortable bed with very soft linen. Good work out room.No thefts, felt very safe. Only complaint - elevators very slow, one is broken.

Lovely older hotel, friendly staff, and clean, well appointed room. Our only complaint was about the pillows;all six were flat and hard, not at all comfortable.

"A good hotel overall but a bit noisy these days"
Despite overall good ratings, a massive construction site opposite the hotel makes it quite a noisy place to stay at the moment. This issue is only temporary but there is also a fire station 50m away on the same road. The staff is welcoming, helpful and very pleasant (except for one at the reception desk) and the rooms are clean and comfortable. It is also well located on the upper West side close to the Metro, shops, Central park and Museum of Natural History.

The hotel is situated right by the empire state building. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to Times Square. The staff were pleasant, the room was clean (but rather small), and they do offer a $10 voucher for the coffee shop next door which was a nice perk. They also provided my new husband and I with a bottle of wine and some chocolates as a celebration of our honeymoon. No real complaints - just found it a bit pricey based on the location and the size of the room.

"Hip, clean and spacious"
This hotel was recently redone. The rooms are very modern and comfortable with plenty of space including a sitting area. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We also enjoyed the complimentary use of the bikes. I also liked having the three main newspapers available.

"large rooms with some great views"
I originally stayed in this hotel years ago because you can get a 2 BR suite with kitchen. The location is great, midtown east just a few blocks from the Empire State and Grand Central. his time I was upgraded to a Junior Skyline suite that has incredible midtown views towards the Chrysler Bldg ... it was wonderful. Kitchens are nice to have but need a bit of an upgrade (old formica counters), and bed was very comfortable. Room is very large (> 400 sf) and is a great value for NYC.

    Explore New York

Let’s just admit it – New York City is the center of the universe. Nowhere else comes close to its energy or importance – in business, art, fashion, cuisine, you name it. It’s a truly global metropolis where strivers from the world over come to chase their dreams.

The mythology of Gotham is as big as its skyscrapers and as brash as its cabbies. At the cutting-edge of everything, it brought you the Beats and the Beastie Boys, Scorsese and “Saturday Night Live,” Chris Rock and the Ramones, George Gershwin and Grandmaster Flash.

You could spend a lifetime exploring Manhattan. Art lovers swoon at the MOMA, the Guggenheim, the Met and countless galleries in Chelsea. Don’t miss a Broadway musical or the views from the Empire State Building.

Visit Brooklyn for hipster cool and family-friendly neighborhoods. You’ll hear every language imaginable in multi-ethnic Queens. Discover the roots of hip-hop and cheer on the Yankees in The Bronx. The Staten Island Ferry provides unbeatable views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.

    Sensory stimulation

It's natural to feel a little overwhelmed on a first visit to New York. The city can overload the senses: the smell of sizzling gyros from Midtown street vendors' carts, the sound of a subway musician's saxophone during the crush of a rush-hour commute, and the neon lights of Times Square flashing at all times of day and night.

This stimulation from all sides is what makes New York so dynamic. You'll soon realize it's the sheer sense of possibility that has everyone jumping. You can do anything here, whether it's catching a long-running show like Phantom of the Opera on Broadway or crashing a loft party in the newest alternative art space. Shop 'til you drop in SoHo like the 'Sex and the City' cast or hobnob with the literati at West Village wine bars.

You can even enjoy some nature, and not only in Central Park. The East Village has many community gardens and Brooklyn's Prospect Park is a real delight. Head north to the Bronx Botanical Gardens or to Washington Heights' Fort Tryon Park, which towers over the Hudson River with views of the Palisades - you won't believe you're still in the city.

    The whole world is here

To get your bearings in such a large city, it's a good idea to start with an overview. A hop-on, hop-off bus tour will help you learn the lay of the land. Or, for a different vantage point, try a helicopter ride over the five boroughs or sail by Manhattan's monuments on an elegant dinner cruise. Sure, it's a bit extravagant and certainly bold, but hey, that's New York.

Really, though, New York is a series of neighborhoods-it's not all that intimidating. From Little Italy to Chinatown, the Lower East Side to Chelsea, New York houses several communities, each with their own distinct flavor. Despite this, there are no artificial boundaries-the daily mix of millions of different people is what makes the city's story so great. Perhaps that's why New Yorkers think they live in the center of the world-it seems the whole world is here. Hide
