I loved this place; I only stayed one night on business, but the location, ambience, and comfort of the hotel made my choice worth it. This is a great example of an old, stately hotel that maintains its character. The room was spacious, comfortable, and very clean. The bathroom was also very large and very clean. I appreciated the continental breakfast and the Red Dog Tavern had nice choices for dinner. My only complaint was that the wi-fi was a little slow (weak signal in my room); otherwise, everything was really perfect. I would stay here again without hesitation.

The pool never had enough towels we had to ask the front desk every time.
One of our remotes didn't work and our room was missing a spoon. I was worried we would be charged for those items, so we spoke with the front desk.
We were told we would get two queen beds and got two double beds.
It was fairly clean. I think the sofa bed needed more attention (crumbs and other things on the mattress.) the sheets for the sofa bed were two flat sheets and a twin blanket (queen sofa bed). We needed to ask for enough pillows for each person in our party. (Even though they knew we had 6 people there were only 5 pillows in the room). That sort of stuff is just annoying.
The staff was very helpful!

There is a welcoming, unaffected quality of American service that most people don't get to experience unless they belong to a private club or stay at hotels that cost about the same. Only spent a night there because neighbouring hotels were full, but the Bernard Inn made what I had anticipated to be a boring business trip to NJ a pleasantly memorable experience. If you need to be refreshed an "on" for a meeting in the area, you would be at a disadvantage if you did not stay here.

We were in the area for a family event, stayed two nights. Pros were easy access to Garden State Parkway, friendly staff at front desk, clean newly remodeled room, nearby grocery store, gas and restaurants. Cons were you could hear noise from hallways and upstairs, breakfast not included and what was available was overpriced with limited options.
