We stayed in the Howard Johnson Inn during our visit to Newport, RI. The hotel was relatively close to the mansion (10-15 min by car). The price was good (better than other similar hotels). The hotel was very clean and the staff were very nice. We were greeted with cookies and fruit at the front door. The hotel was a bit nicer than what I expected in terms of the lobby and the breakfast. The room was also fine for what we needed. If you are looking for a clean room in a decent hotel, then this could be a good option. I think it was as good as the Courtyard we stayed in previously and paid less money for it.

"Room was very musty smelling and extremely dated. "
Typical of most Wyndham locations ,they purchase outdated properties, giving them a new paint job and then promoting them as upscale destinations in a resort community. What's that saying? " You can't make a pig out of a sows ear ". Charging $200.00 + for this piece of property is simply greed plain and simple.

Lobby really needs remodeling, but where it counts the rooms are clean with wonderful linens, and the rooms don't have carpet which is refreshing. The bathrooms need remodeling but are quite adequate .overall very nice day convenient to everything

Good price, close to downtown Newport. Breakfast included in price. Over all not too bad. My biggest gripe with this place is the mattresses they use. Impossible to get a good night sleep. It is so soft, like laying in a jello bed. Woke up (if I can even call that woke up, since I never really fell asleep) shaking from exhaustion, just like in the last Hampton Inn (Mystic,CT). I would give these hotels a solid four and maybe a 5, but for the beds.... otherwise it's a great value. Usually a mile or two away from all the action, but close enough where you don't have to drive 10-15 mins every time you go somewhere. Good place to stay with kids, nice breakfast, just fix the beds..

Have stayed here for three years for Newport boat show. People are pleasant and it's always quiet. The continental breakfast was very limited this year....could use fruit, yogurt, granola bars, not gluten free friendly. The room was not very clean... Corn chips on the couch and rugs did not look vacuumed which made you really question the cleanliness. One pillow was either used or case stained. Many visible repairs need inside and out. Bathroom fan or something would make a knocking noise for several minutes every time the entrance door was opened. Unfortunately, we may need to consider other options in the future.

Aptly named due to its location at the midpoint of Aquidneck Island, Middletown is sandwiched between Portsmouth to the north and Newport to the south. Still well-known as a farming community, Middletown is favored by locals and tourists for its popular beaches. Nature lovers flock to the Norman Bird Sanctuary, which offers seven miles of hiking trails through pristine natural habitats.
