Planned a late summer trip to fish, snorkel, site see, etc. Great location in the Keys. Very close to necessities with great options for dining!
The Banana Bay staff was great! All needs and questions answered. The rooms were very, very recently renovated! Very nice! The reason for not getting an excellent rating was the mosquito presence, but that seems to be a major Florida thing now!

Our stay was absolutely amazing, checking in was great until we were notified that they had to place a hold on $200.00 a night on our credit card. I feel like that is a lot of money and they really need to disclose that information a little better.

I arrived quite late, after midnight, but had called earlier in the day regarding the late arrival. Very fortunate that I did so, as the office is closed from 9 pm until 8 am! The staff was very helpful, and my room key and location map was placed in a lock box outside the office entrance. No problem. If you don't call, you won't have a room.
Motel is in poor condition, but they are in the process of remodeling it. In spite of the rundown condition, the room was very clean and comfortable, even had a small kitchenette.
The location is extremely convenient. Off the highway enough for quiet, on the road to Marathon's nicest beach, across the road from a public golf course (with restaurant and lounge). Lots of nearby restaurants, pharmacy, stores (Publix) and 'watering holes'.
This is a large motel, it has a large and well maintained swimming pool with Tiki Bar.
It sets on a canal, with an extensive marina.
Of course one of it's main attractions is the price. Great for those on a contained budget.

A fishing buddy and I rented a 2-bedroom villa that gave us plenty of room to kick around in for four nights. We've stayed in several places between Islamorada and Key West and I would rate this as the best in terms of quality for price. Nice view of marina, comfortable patio, full kitchen, and very close to Hawks Cay Resort. No pool, but we got a free pass to a nearby club with pool, beach, bar and restaurant. Our only complaint was that a group of six young people occupied the villa next to us for two nights, and they were quite noisy.

As others have said, it doesn't look like much on the outside, but this is a sweet little hotel. The rooms are a little old, but mine was SPACIOUS. There is a wonderful private beach out back where you can watch the sunset. The man at the front desk represented true island charm. He was wonderful.

The majority of the hotel complex is new and all the amenities are as well. We staid in the ''garden suites'' which are older than the main hotel although the price for these rooms are adjusted accordingly and I believe there are only five of these units, they are more like a small studio with a full kitchen including a dishwasher. Also there is a large living room that can accommodate more people for sleeping if I'm not mistaken. I would say it is perfect for a couple who wishes to have a longer stay and partake in the hotel's perks. The location is very accessible and close to all the necessary amenities one would expect. There is a full service restaurant and bar on site which served very good food and drink. The service we received was 5 star by all the employees. They paid a lot of attention to details, such as free muffins next to the lobby coffee machine, ice cold water bottles next to the pool... The staff seemed in tuned to make the whole place spotless.
I knew that this hotel was pet friendly and I'm an animal lover but when large dogs are in the lounge and restaurant area sitting on furniture and jumping around while we were trying to have a peaceful meal well I didn't agree that was appropriate.

If you're on a budget and traveling in the Florida Keys this is a unique experience.
The floating rooms were made from old house and sail boats.
Nothing fancy, they're boats docked and floating on water. They're air conditioned and have a bathroom with a shower.
Right at the top of Marathon Key and not quite an hour from Key West depending on traffic.
Definitely somewhere I'd like to take my kids the next time I'm in the keys.

In the central Keys Marathon is a relatively new city, though the area has been developed for a while. Tourists flock to Marathon to sunbathe on Sombrero Beach. Fishing and scuba diving are also popular here.
