"Nice older hotel"
This was a nice older hotel. We stayed here for a week with our 2 children. The hotel is a little dated, but clean. The beds were ok, not great but not the worst. The breakfast was waffles, toast, English muffin, bagels w/ cream cheese, muffins, cinnamon rolls, 3 kinds of dry cereals, orange and apple juice, coffee and tea. I would have like to seen some fruit but it's ok. Many different cultures of people stayed there which was neat to hear all the languages. Our bathroom appeared a bit dirty, but when I tried to clean it myself realized it was just staining. The water was pretty hard coming out of the shower head but it got you clean and well rinsed. The room was large, quiet and private. Secure gated parking. Carpet was a little worn but felt like it had been recently cleaned. We loved the balcony looking over the pool. Overall for the price I though it was a good hotel, I would stay here again.

"Hotel close to LAX"
We chose La Quinta b/c it was close to LAX where we were going to drop our daughter off in the morning. The hotels near LAX can be quite expensive. We thought we'd try La Quinta based on their fun commercials.

"Basic room, but does the job"
Close to downtown. Has the capacity for a large family. No microwave in room, but one provided for entire building in outdoor closet. Fridge in room. Parking after 8pm is terrible due to limited availability, but staff great and will accommodate you parking in unexpected areas. Room was clean on surface, although mattress was stained. Bed linens clean, but thin, had to ask for extra blankets even though its summer, because ac even down low kept room freezing. Overall you get what you pay for.

"An older property, but still in very good cond."
The furniture needs to be updated, but the bed was comfortable and the linens were clean and fresh. The WiFi worked very well, a pleasant surprise. It has a restaurant, but it wasn't open when I checked in, so I ended up eating at Outback, which is within a few miles. They are currently renovating some of the rooms, but the activities never got in the way or were bothersome. If the restaurant was open, with good service and food, I would likely give this hotel a 4. If you want a refrigerator or microwave in the room, those are available at an extra charge (I think $10 each per stay). The pool was open and it was busy every evening. There is a nice grassy sitting area by the pool, with metal tables, chairs and umbrellas, perfect for relaxing and browsing the web on my tablet.

"Nice hotel, very close to LAX"
Hotel was quite nice, very close to LAX, however is situated near not much else. Area is a bit rough, have to drive a fair distance to find restaurants etc. Definitely not a hotel you can walk around and explore the area of. Our second day there was some issue with the fire alarm causing it to go off every couple of minutes making an afternoon nap absolutely impossible.

"Close to LAX"
I had the brilliant idea to book a 6am flight out of LAX for me, the husband and 2 small kids. Coming from the SFV that meant waking up around 3am to make our flight. Not so brilliant! Enter the Travelodge. We only stayed one night, but it was comfortable and very close to LAX. They also offered a free shuttle to the airport. It does have a "vintage" feel, but served its purpose for us!

    Explore Los Angeles

Movie stars, surfers, Beverly Hills. You’ll want to see them, of course, but there’s more to Los Angeles than sunbaked clichés. It’s a huge city and truly multicultural – Latinos are the majority, but more than 200 additional languages are spoken in enclaves like Little Tokyo, Tehrangeles, Little Ethiopia and Koreatown.

Creatives flock here too – aspiring actors, screenwriters, musicians and increasingly, visual artists; LA’s contemporary art scene is among the world’s best. Check out cutting-edge galleries during the monthly Downtown Art Walk, or visit top-notch museums like the LACMA and the Getty. Then there’s the food. Modernist restaurants favored by A-listers, teensy taco stands with lines down the block, real-deal ethnic eateries, comfort classics like Philippe’s the Original – it’s a wonder Angelenos stay so thin.

Spend sunny days lazing on Santa Monica beach, searching for stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame or browsing vintage boutiques on Melrose Avenue. At night, take in the view from the Griffith Observatory, cruise Mulholland Drive or see an indie band at The Satellite.

    On the big screen

Film buffs will appreciate a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the magic of the silver screen at Universal Studios Hollywood, and music fans should make a stop at Capitol Records' circular tower on Vine Street. The label's studios are renowned for their unique acoustic properties, and are the home of big-name artists such as the Beastie Boys, Frank Sinatra, and Lily Allen.

If the hype and glamour of Tinseltown gets to be a bit too much, take a break at one of Los Angeles' famous white sandy beaches. Stretching over 72 miles, there's something to suit every taste, from colorful Venice Beach to Malibu's epic surfing beaches. Or you could hire an open-top car and take the Pacific Coast Highway from Santa Monica past LA's multi-million-dollar beachside mansions. This state highway offers one of America's best scenic drives, from wild coastal scrub to expansive beach views. And with a mild year-round Mediterranean climate, you'll find it easy to while away a lazy afternoon in the sun.

    Multicultural mode

As the second-largest city in the United States, and with more than 220 different languages spoken by its residents, Los Angeles has a truly diverse identity. Used as a backdrop to films including 'Rush Hour' and 'Lethal Weapon 4', Chinatown is the perfect place to catch an independent art exhibition or sit down to a Peking Duck.

Step back in time along Olvera Street, regarded as the birthplace of Los Angeles, where Mexican and Latino culture is kept alive with traditional market stalls and restaurants. Or check out the many clubs and karaoke bars (noraebangs) in Koreatown, well-known for its thriving nightlife.

    Rodeo Drive, baby

Of course, Los Angeles is all about retail therapy, and where better to indulge than in one of the city's legendary shopping enclaves. See and be seen along trendy Melrose Avenue, where big international designers vie for attention, or dig out some rare vintage finds on La Brea Avenue. For the ultimate in LA style, have your own 'Pretty Woman' moment on Rodeo Drive, where the rich and famous top up their Chanel, Gucci, and Cartier collections.

A city of style and opportunities, it's no wonder Los Angeles has long been a magnet for travellers and young hopefuls alike. With its mix of fame, glamour, and natural beauty, there's no doubt the magic of the City of Angels lives on. Hide
