"Nice hotel near Loch Ard but terrible restaurant"
We stayed at the Macdonal Forest Hills hotel near Aberfoyle for 3 nights at the end of April 2017. Our experience of our stay was mixed. Good points: - Friendly reception staff - Excellent that fresh milk and ice are brought to the room free of charge. This was done promptly each time requested - Very spacious feature double room with view of Loch Ard and balcony - Good pool and jacuzzi, steam room, sauna etc Negative points: - The restaurant. This is supposed to be a AA Rosette winning restaurant so we decided to treat ourselves to a meal there on our first night. The prices were high but we thought the food would be absolutely delicious. I ordered the hake which was ok, however, my partner ordered the chicken supreme which was appalling! Chicken supreme is typically in a creamy sauce with bacon pieces. What he was served was basically a piece of chicken on a plate, with no seasoning, flavouring or sauce whatsoever. It was served with 4 tasteless chips and some seaweed that also tasted of nothing. It cost £17. I have never tasted such a bland dish, and could not believe this would be served up in a restaurant that is supposed to be a very high standard. Clearly standards have slipped since the award was given, and the quality has not been maintained in order to be worthy of a AA Rosette status. I informed the hotel of our very poor experience at the restaurant. Housekeeping poor: room not serviced until around 4pm when we then wanted to be in our room.

"Good hotel, walking distance to a lot"
I liked the hotel, however I wish they put the thought that my next hotel put into their guests. The next hotel asked about anticipated arrival times so that the earliest arrivals would be able to check in early as their rooms would be cleaned in order of priority. While I understand the check in time is 3pm, it would seem that the airlines aren't as flexible with their arrival time, and being that I can't sleep on planes, I was overly exhausted when I tried to check in (about noon), and again when I tried to check in at actual check in time, and my room wasn't ready. They upgraded my room so that I was able to check in, but it felt like I was being inconvenient by them doing so. It was a nice room. Great bathroom, however the only light that was burnt out was the one I would have needed for getting ready (the center bathroom light). There are way too many light switches, and the American outlet didn't work. There was a part on the marble that you could tell they hadn't invested in the proper cleaning materials, as it was covered in glass rings. The bed needed a sheet. It had a"fitted" sheet, which was just a flat sheet tucked over the mattress, and a comforter, but it didn't have the regular flat sheet and I'm a hot sleeper who sleeps better under a cover (at my house, my comforter stays on the floor in summer and I sleep under the flat sheet). Loved the spa, wished I had went there earlier. I would have been in there every morning and night!

"Beautiful hotel with convenient location"
PROS: The hotel was beautifully maintained! Staff was friendly and very helpful! It's in a central location (attached to the train station), so it was easy to reach and a great location to catch public transport to other parts of the city. My room and bathroom were very clean and housekeeping did a great job. I would definitely recommend this hotel! CONS: I was on a top floor, so I didn't have much of a view. Being situated right next to the train station, it was a little bit noisy at night with so much traffic in the area.

"Great location. Excellent staff"
Nice hotel. A bit old fashioned, but in a good way. Caters to an older demographic (I think). The free mini bar was a nice touch. Staff was very friendly.

"Hotel with character in a magnificent location"
Let down by uncomfortably warm bedroom (even with all windows open) due to thermostatic radiator valves not closing fully. Complaints to staff failed to resolve, with no explanation provided. Nice spa facilities but sauna was at an almost unbearable 96C and pool area also excessively warm thus could not cool down:-(

"The place to stay in Luss"
You must visit and stay in the quaint, historic village of Luss on the banks of Loch Lomond. This community of 120 locals blends buildings of a different time with modern life and a rich Scottish village culture, which is palpable despite the large number of visitors. Loch Lomond Arms provides am excellent place to stay, dine, refresh & relax.

"A pleasant location"
Not the most exciting place to stay but it was fine. The hotel overall is a bit tired. The Garden Restaurant was nicely decorated as was the Bar area but bedrooms need some attention. The bedrooms were a bit stuffy, and the windows had restrictors so did not open too far (for safety reasons). The curtains were heavy and so at night it got really hot. If the windows could open a little bit further .... Tea and coffee was provided but the hospitality tray was a little poor. 1 pack of 2 biscuits for a couple to share and only 4 milk jiggers. The cooked breakfast was very nice. There was an average selection of continental items available.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
