very impressed by how they maintained their standard across all banyan tree hotels. Service was almost impeccable and they paid attention to little details to make guest feel pampered and well taken care of. We had a great stay and we will be staying in more of banyan tree hotels in time to come. Love it.

Stayed in an ocean front villa with pool - certainly not a plunge pool it was huge - for 8 nights. the villa is very luxurious, quite, private and totally relaxing. 2 restaurants on site, shuttle bus into town - as it is not within walking distance of any main shopping area, a small beach very rocky need shoes to swim. Staff all very helpful and friendly. 5 star resort, well priced.

After an initial problem with our extra beds ( we travelled with two teenagers and were given a sun lounger on the first night for one of their beds ) this was hastily sorted out the next morning.
The staff were friendly and very willing and helpful. The pool was relaxing with sunbeds and umbrellas. Free car to lamai beach ( nicer than crystal beach)

"Attractive if run-down budget hotel on the beach"
Sand Sea is right on Lamai Beach with bar and pool, and some of the bungalows available looking out onto the beach itself. It's a good location, with decently-sized rooms and an attractive garden. At time of writing (2016/5 and off-season) the quality of facility upkeep was not great -- reception area sometimes has a sewage smell, room air conditioner was very loud clearly in need of maintenance, a nail poking out of the floorboards, repaints of parts of the rooms and reception in seemingly random ugly colours, bright fluorescent lighting -- these are a few examples. I also found the staff to be unusually apathetic; not unfriendly nor unhelpful, just not as cheerful and eager as other places I've visited. This list sounds worse than it is -- it's not a luxury hotel by any means, but for budget travelers this is a decent option (note I visited off-season so prices would be higher in peak season).

Stayed 6 days. All in all OK stay; enjoyed daily swims at the beach
Would have been even better if we had a 1st or 2nd floor apartment rather than the ground floor unit we got. The units glass is see through so we had to keep blinds drawn & internal lights on even during the day for privacy

We booked as it was on the beach but close to night market and shops, plus with teenagers we wanted breakfast, the location along lamai beach was excellent, next to life guard and jet skis etc but still quiet I'd say the best area along lamia beach. There were always a few available sun loungers even though some people put towels out early. The massage service at the beach was competively priced and great, they really took pride in setting up a pleasant atmosphere daily.we booked a tour and our return ferry/ bus with their guide and she was very helpful and again the price was competitive to other agents on the street but service much better. Our plan had been to move to chewang or fishermans village but we ended up extending our time at Aloha resort as chewang beach was dirty and the town smelly in comparison and the kids didn't want to leave the beach and pool. Pool area is also very clean and well maintained. We didn't use the beach cafe as there was so much choice close by at competitive prices. It would have been nice to have tea and coffe facilities in the room but the 7/11 is just across the street or you can order room service. It was a plus to receive free daily water in the fridge and fresh beach towels. I think if the central lounge area was used for coffee or had a competitive bar we would have enjoyed lounging there after dinner especially as our teenagers often wanted o go back to their room, if that area was used the hotel would have felt a little more lively.

Bills Resort is lovely hotel and the staff are love very helpful and polite. My only problem is the distant it is away from the main lamai strip it's either via a lane on to a busy main road or via the beach and both ways about 10 minute walk. But can't complain really just need to be aware to get transport to travel around.

The second-most popular beach on Ko Samui, southeast-facing Lamai Beach is a good alternative to Chaweng Beach if you’re looking for a stretch of sand just off the main drag. “Grandmother” and “Grandfather” Rocks on the south end of the beach were carved by wind and rain into creative shapes, and within their crevasses are inviting turquoise bathing pools.
