The hotel literally is next to the last stop on the funicular from the train station. It's located in the center of the pedestrian area with shops and restaurants nearby. It's a short walk to the lake. We had the breakfast which had the usual European cold breakfast food. Our room was a nice size. We were in the back and could hear the funicular but it was not a problem.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Palace Hotel. We had a beautiful view of the lake from our room which was well appointed and clean. It was close to restaurants and shopping, breakfast was good and the staff was friendly. We checked out in the morning and the hotel kept our bags while we spent the day on the lake.

We stayed at the hotel in Oct 2017. It is close to the main train station and the local one. There are nice restaurants in all directions, which we tried each night. Past trips to the area proved we wanted to be in Como and explore the other towns by water taxi. This location was great for that. The hotel staff were very helpful.

Ticino’s business and cultural center is located lakeside and surrounded by mountains. Visitors to Lugano’s historic city center should put on walking shoes to wander the cobblestoned streets and piazzas. High-end shops line Via Nassa and merchants sell produce at Piazza della RiForma’s outdoor market. Degas and Renoir are on display at Museo Cantonale d'Arte while magnolias, camellias, and sub-tropical plants fill the city parks.
