We had a great time. This place is one of best places in big island for snorkling, swimming and relaxation. Hotel is clean and beautiful and well taken cared of. Staff is very friendly. Due to our delay we missed our connecting flight to the big island but the hotel manager was very understanding about refunging our first night. That was an unexpected surprise.

This was my first time staying here at this particular property. I was interested in booking a villa as my fiancé has stayed here a few years back. However, I got it for him as a birthday surprise to celebrate his special day & through the weekend.
The only downfall was no availability to extend as I was told differently upon check in, & the hotel staff wasn't too friendly nor helpful in person. I must say one of the front desk agents, Jacob was great upon checkin he was very friendly & had an awesome attitude & smile that made it very welcoming!

Irene was terrific at the front desk, helped us book a tour after the tropical storm messed with our schedule. The condo was clean, well equipped, nice location. Would definitely return to this place again.

This was our second stay at the Shores. The grounds and pool area have been well-maintained and are still lovely. Parking was plentiful and convenient to our unit. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful, as were the maintenance folks (they promptly responded to an issue with our laundry closet door.)
We stayed in building 11, unit 202. The unit was on the second floor and was large and clean with a great lanai, which we enjoyed very much. Overall condition of the unit was decent. The bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable. The living area furnishings appeared to be more suited for outdoors (seating was uncomfortable and sofa too small to stretch out on.)
The kitchen needed updating - appliances appeared to be worn out (inside of dishwasher rusted, loud compressor on the fridge, cracked microwave door) and the cabinets were pretty beat up. Kitchen provisions also weren't great (we wound up purchasing our own skillets and tupperware as well as coffee filters, basic spices, etc.)
We were a bit frustrated with the wireless (very slow with limited range.) As others noted, foot traffic can be heard above - we had a heavy footed woman staying above us who liked to stomp around at all hours of the night (I wound up leaving a note on her door.)
Overall, we enjoyed the property and would probably stay again - however we would likely go with a third floor or villa unit and rent directly from an owner so we know what we're getting up front.

Pocket Guide: Hawaii Kohala Coast - Waikoloa Hotels
Luxury resorts, sprawling golf courses, and white sands line the Kohala Coast – Waikoloa. Hawaii’s sunniest coast is a must-go for beachgoers. It is also known as the cradle to King Kamehameha, Hawaii’s greatest king. His influence can be seen at the nearby Pu’ukohola Heiau National Historic Site, where visitors can see the temple of war he built before unifying the Hawaiian Islands.
