We intended this to just be an overnight stop on our way north, but we enjoyed the stay so much that we will return. We got an upgraded room and it was excellent, roomy, and clean. They were very pet friendly as well, and weren't just one of those places that say they are pet friendly but really aren't. It was farther from the waterway than we expected, but that turned out to be a bonus as the port was more industrial than expected. We found good walks locally for our pets. The restaurant was most excellent as well. We had an amazing dinner of fine fresh local seafood. We will be back.

This is a very pleasant hotel, which has both an internal as well as en external car park. The team member doing the Check-in was very pleasant and helpful as were others during the breakfast service in the morning. The only down side to this hotel is that there is no restaurant, just a small bar and there are only two or three good restaurants in the immediate vicinity, which for my three night stopover was absolutely fine.
The hotel is very clean and my room was spotless and the bed war comfortable. Even a small desk and free Wifi were available to help me do some work in the evenings. My only complaint of the room would be that it had a Velux window and during my stay it rained heavily during the night keeping my awake at times.
But, if I have to visit this area again then this would be my hotel of choice.

GHOTEL Kiel is easy to find on a main road outside the centre of Kiel and has plenty of parking. Staff are friendly and helpful, and speak English as well as German. The rooms and public spaces are somewhat stark but relieved by colourful paintings on the walls. There's an excellent breakfast buffet in a dining room with picture windows overlooking the garden, and a good mid-range restaurant three minutes' walk away behind the hotel (Am Posthorn). The hotel is ideal for a quick business visit; holidaymakers and families could probably find somewhere more attractive nearer the centre of town. Beware of their cancellation policy which returns only 10% of what you've paid.

The centre for German shipbuilding, Kiel is also the country’s sailing capital. Kiel Week (last week in June) is one of the biggest sailing events in the world. Attractions in the old town include Kiel Maritime Museum and the 14th century church of St Nicholas with a sculpture by Ernst Barlach in front. The white-sand beach of Laboe, 10 kilometres north-east, has a Naval Memorial and a WWII submarine, now a museum.
