Shanghai Ship Hotel

"A large ship on a wet land"
The room is spacious and relatively clean. There are no commercial area right next, but one can get to stores walking a few blocks west. Not crowded at all, and very calm. Surrounded by green area, I thought there is a park one can easily access, but the buildings that look like outlet stores are all closed and they block the way to the park-like place. Bus is rather scarce. It's hard to catch a taxi, but one can call taxi through the hotel staff. It cost 300 RMB from Pudong airport, but Dongchuanlu station (metro line 5) is ~42 RMB away by taxi. One can get to the the downtown Shanghai by metro from there in about 30 minutes. (Very convenient Metro!!) There are apartment houses around, but they seem quite empty. The food in the hotel is OK, and people are very kind. However, only a few people can speak English, so prepare yourself with a translation app.

"Pleasant place"
I stayed for 2 weeks. I actually stayed in 3 different rooms, so have a sense of the overall quality. In general, all the rooms were fairly quiet, except that the housekeeping staff spoke really loudly to each other, which always annoyed me. Rooms are standard: bottled water, towels, and tea. Television had a few foreign channels like HBO and Japanese stations, but the picture quality not too good. Air conditioning varied. In one room it worked great, in another it could not get the temperature lower than 28 degrees Celsius. Staff was generally helpful, and housekeeping was friendly, but the cafeteria staff was a little crude and demanding, as if they always wanted you to leave. Speaking of the cafeteria, the breakfast is not worth it. I tend not to like Chinese breakfasts like congee and rice rolls, but it is probably better than the Western items. They do have eggs and a toaster, but the French toast was basically youtiao with a different bread, and the bacon was unidentifiable. I bought a French press at IKEA and made my own coffee. The food in the neighborhood is not bad, with many Sichuan, Hunan, and Pulled Noodle places. Both Carrefour and Walmart are not too far. Otherwise, there is not much to see or do in the area. The gym worked for me. All I want is carpeting, space, and air conditioning and it had all three. Otherwise, they had a couple treadmills and a bicycle and weights. Watch out for mosquitoes though. Overall, this was a decent value.

"A good experience."
The journey there from Putong airport was long. It was difficult for the driver to find the new entrance to the water village. The long walk with my luggage to Blossom Hill Hotel from the entrance was very challenging for me because I have a spinal problem. I was separated from my friends and could not find the hotel until someone came to get me. The hotel is quaint and beautiful, the service good and the bed is comfortable and clean. I wish it has better lighting especially at the dressing mirror. However the experience at Blossom Hill Zhuozhuang is a good one.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
