Travelling south from the Scottish borders, we had booked this hotel as a stopover (using my Expedia points - so it was a freebee!). I last used it about 20 years ago so was interested to see the changes.
Now it is a well furnished, comfy hotel with superb food and really great staff. It has a car park (you pay for it, but it is convenient, and the "Fat Badger" bar and grill accessed from the hotel itself.
Our room (106) had plenty of space, a small but well planned en-suite with shower, sofa, desk,TV and tea & coffee kit. Importantly it had a large and very comfortable bed. Everything worked and was very clean.
Harrogate, as ever is a very "walkable" town with plenty of shops and lots of places to eat & drink. An added bonus were the Christmas lights - well worth a visit.

Perfect retreat, on a quiet street just a short walk from the beautiful centre of York. Very comfortable bed, fully functioning kitchen, and an overall very homely feel. Steve is great host and very helpful. A home away from home - would definitely recommend!

As with most YHA hostels, the building is quite old but is kept in clean and good condition. Only a short walk to city centre. My only complaint is that the bathrooms and showers need to be renovated and are also VERY small.

I was looking for a hotel with a bit of character and 42 The Calls definitely has this. It's in an old mill on the banks of the river and is right in the centre of Leeds. It's an easy 10-minute stroll from the station and a very short walk from many of Leeds' attractions.
The staff were helpful and the room comfortable. I was offered a glass of wine on arrival (very welcome).
The room had pretty much everything needed, and I appreciated the modest-sized tv, which was appropriate for the surroundings (ie not the huge screens that so many hotels have now).
I could have used a flatter pillow - all 4 pillows on the bed were quite chunky and a bit of variety would have been good. I'm not sure how much life is left in the mattress - I could feel the springs in one or two places although overall it was quite comfortable and I had a good sleep on it.
I would definitely stay in this hotel again and recommend it to others

It is a spectacular building amongst all the bad new ones. The inside of the hotel is lovely but it will take a lot of work to keep up the standards. We only stopped one night for a concert the bed was comfy and the room nice and large with sufficient facilities. The tea and coffee left needs an upmarket branding. There is also a need for shower cubicles instead of a bath, but most hotels have the same.
