This is a hotel that provides the bare minimum - no extras. There was no mini-fridge or microwave in the room. The room was very stuffy and it was also impossible to open the windows for fresh air. For some reason, our room had two steps to go to the bathroom from the bed area. Not ideal for walking in the middle of the night. The continental breakfast was in a very small room and when we went, there were 15 people there and it became very cramped. The containers ran out of food so one hotel staff had to re-fill.
Still, you get what you paid for - a room.

Wonderful! Beautiful, fully appointed kitchen with new appliances, marble countertops, large flat screen TV with Netflix located in the bedroom and also the living area, deep bathtub, thick, fluffy towels - we booked the most modest suite and were surprised with the space and amenities offered. For the same price that the big chains charge for a basic room, this historic gem of a hotel offers so much more! Drawbacks: The check-in attendant at the hotel restaurant was out of parking passes - I ended up paying 9 dollars to park in the structure up the street for one night, but considering what we paid for a nicely-appointed suite, it's hardly worth complaining about. The other drawback was I had to leave - I will definitely be returning for more than one night.

The room was lovely, quiet and had wonderful air conditioning. Two minor issues were: 1) there was no movies on demand despite the information saying there was in the guest services - we had decided to stay in and watch a movie with our dinner - were disappointed 2) sitting on the toilet put your left arm and elbow pressed against the wall and on the top of the toilet paper - could have centered the toilet! The pasta dinner was not good but everything else was.

Not one but two rivers run through this southwestern Ontario city. Guelph's Royal Recreational Trail brings river-watchers, bicyclists, and walkers along the water and into vibrant downtown squares and streets packed with bistros and bars, galleries and shops. Take in one of many indie rock bands, the summer Jazz Festival, and McCrae House, which honors poet John McCrae of In Flanders Field.
