We were greeted very warmly but professionally . Sarah spoke perfect English, and was very helpful with a situation that arose outside of our stay with them. The room was large, airy, beautifully decorated, and included everything one might expect in a suite, but we were only charged what we paid for a regular double room in other areas of France. The on site dining room provided one of the most delightful dinners we had in our 15 days in France. What a treat to be able to enjoy a perfectly paired ( by their Sommelier) wine with dinner and not worry about driving back to the Hotel ... We had only to stroll across the well lit courtyard!!! The menu is outstanding, though a little pricey. If you stay there ... plan on this dinner being your special meal of your holiday with flavors I am still dreaming of. We were invited to use their Spa
Facilities at no extra charge ( indoor and outdoor pool, workout room etc) but our time there was short and we were off the following day. A very short drive from Mulhouse ... I highly recommend this hotel /spa
Quick Note to Proprietors : the pillows on the bed are in no way up to the standard of your impeccable hotel. This is one small detail that was overlooked ...

I checked in on a Friday afternoon. The front desk girl spoke pretty good English and was helpful in answering my initial questions about the city and room as well as later follow up questions. She was generally very pleasant to interact with so I would rate the staff highly at this hotel. The other staff members were also OK and spoke enough English (better than my French)
The room was clean with somewhat new looking furniture. Bathroom also seemed relatively new and was clean also. Location is across the street from the train station which is great for convenience because that also is right near the end of the main street so you can walk or take the metro to most places easily.
Overall it is a good hotel for the price.

Staff was very helpful and offered several times quick advice on where to dine
and the neighbourhood. Staff willingly held baggage for later pickup after checkout.
The hotel is unfortunately on a poorly kept street. There was trash on the
sidewalks and general filth around. DId not feel safe at night.
Grenoble has interesting museums and site seeing opportunities
and these are easy to walk to, or else travel on the tramway which
works very well.
Restaurants we found to be not great.

I stayed here while visiting my son who was taking his semester abroad in Grenoble. It's a very convenient location - right next to the light rail system. The room was - as expected - quite small - but just fine. The staff was helpful and genial. And while I was at the Museum of the French Resistance (highly recommended) - I learned that this hotel had been used as a headquarters by both Nazis and Italian commanders during the occupation. I assume those guys could have stayed any place they wanted - and they picked the Gambetta.
They offer parking in their private garage - but it is very very tight quarters - and my rental car was mid sized - so it was harder than solving a Rubic's cube puzzle and very time consuming to maneuver my car in and out. If you have a big car - look for another solution.

Rooms were pleasant, but breakfast poor. Room provisions were not topped up after first night.
This hotel would suit business travellers who don't mind having to drive to restaurants or who are staying long enough to make use of self catering facilities.

The largest city in southern France with 160,000 people, Grenoble is surrounded by the Alps. Though small, the Musée de Grenoble has some impressive works, including four Picassos, one Miro, one Kandinsky, and one Andy Warhol. The Musée de la Resistance et de la deportation de l'Isere is worth a visit for its informative exhibition about World War II.
