Grand Aston provided a fantastic location for our visit to Jogja. The facilities and service are impeccable. It is in a central location with most amenities nearby. Malioboro street is only 5-10 minutes by taxi / Uber / Grab. In fact we preferred to be a little ways away from the hustle and bustle of Malioboro. The breakfast spread is very impressive and top notch ... although Santika excels in the traditional breakfast department.

Well maintained hotel in a gorgeous setting. The hotel is surrounded by a park and golf course. The staff was super friendly. The pool area is very relaxing. The food is ok, but not great. The gym is a bit small and only has limited equipment. Regardless a great place to stay and escape the noise of the city.

This is a lovely hotel as described in the other reviews... I had a room overlooking the pool which was very noisy at times. I was woken up at 7:30 on the Saturday by what sounded like a karaoke or live music. It seems that they hold events in this area which I guess explains this. A couple of days later there seemed to be a conference there as there were several dozen people around the pool area... in itself, not a problem, but I think you would probably feel quite awkward there if you had been in the pool during that time or sitting on one of the sun loungers in your swimwear.
Another small niggle I have is that there they didn't offer you a welcome drink. Most hotels offer this and frankly it doesn't usually bother me one way or the other, but in this instance I was early and quite thirsty so it would have been nice. I did ask but was told that it isn't their policy to offer a welcome drink.
The room was very nice and spacious and the common areas in the hotel are truly fantastic.

An enjoyable stay & all the staff were just wonderful, aside from a couple of hit & misses. Upon checking in for the next 5 nights in a junior suite; the front desk apparently didn't mention about our eligibility to excess to the executive lounge, I reckoned they were at their low season then.
The hotel is just next to the Ambarrukmo Plaza & about 20 mins from the airport. The surrounding & ambience were excellent & it even has a Royal history behind this hotel. Although they are not situated in the heart of the town but they are still located in a busy area & yet we weren't affected by the traffic noise, it was rather quiet & tranquil except for those loud noises from some unruly guests utilising the pool.
The spa was enjoyable but do note they are an independent group not affiliated to the hotel but utilising their premises; they even do room spa services at a slightly different price tag.
Dinning in the cafe was great, especially breakfast, guests were spoiled for choice, from some of their local Javanese cuisines to some Asian & Western style dishes & they even have a Jamu corner, an Indonesian herbal concoction, good for both health & beauty. The pre freshly squeezed juice corner was a big let down, extremely diluted.
Room service was good with presentation, quantity, quality & taste.
Room was very spacious, clean & a good king size bed but bathroom could improve.
Would I return? Yes, definitely, the staff made you feel special with their Indonesian hospitality.

Karaton Palace was my last stop on a long morning of exploration (Borobodur and Prambanan temples). Cavinton hotel is rather close to Karaton. Its also close to Malioboro Street and Pathok Street (for Bakpia and Kripik lovers). All within walking distance.

Nicely designed hotel with pleasant staff but definitely with service issues that need improvement. The worst was getting sick on hotel food which was unacceptable. Nice room but no hot water or instructions on how to turn on hot water which was unpleasant. Lots of external noise, so not much soundproofed walls. No vegan or vegetarian food options available and despite clear instructions to staff on alternatives, results were inconsistent but able to put together bits and pieces at buffet breakfast. Informed desk of a very early checkout a day before but no communication to restaurant to prepare a takeaway breakfast. If you want a nice room to retire to and don't care about much else, then the Harper will work for you but if you're looking for attention to detail, then I wouldn't recommend it.

I am a frequent world traveler with a high expectation when it comes to customer service. This hotel has met my standard and more.
I was particularly impressed by Wara at FD, Ayu and Iris from the breakfast dept., who'd been helping me during my stay.
All in all, great experience!
