Visiting family in this lovely historic city Hotel very good but on the balcony floor of our room was a cigarette packet and stub which stayed there even after the room had been cleaned The road outside was being repaired and workmen work us up at 7am each day

"Good location, friendly staff"
Very close to the centre, lots of sights and amenities within walking distance. Short ride on the tram from Ghent St Pieter's station. Room was good size, with high ceilings. View of the road outside, but window was high so you couldn't really see out of it anyway. Good base for exploring. Can easily hear people in other rooms and the maids, but this wasn't a big deal. Bed was king size and comfy. Shower over bath, easy to get a good temperature. Staff were helpful and friendly. Was able to leave luggage in the hotel as we arrived a lot earlier than the 3pm check-in. The check-in seems to be a strict 3pm. Was also able to leave luggage after the 11am check-out. Overall was a pleasant hotel, in a good location. Would recommend.

"One Night Stop-over in Ghent"
Firstly, the welcome when we arrived was warm and genuine, a really good start. We were given great advice on what to see and do for the day we'd set aside to look around Ghent. We had the breakfast, it was Saturday so the buffet, it was really tasty and good value. Again the staff on duty were fantastic, they couldn't do enough and looked after us really well.

"Great hotel for student/budget travellers"
The hotel was clean and comfortable. Location was pretty decent, about 15 min walk from the city centre. However, do note that the hotel rooms have no air conditioning and that the hotel does not have an elevator. Still, the weather is cooling even in the summer. Great stay overall!

"Amazing find in my home town"
Living abroad, we usually travel back to Ghent a few times per year. Hotel Verhaegen was an amazing find for our new home away from home. The 'house' is truly unique in the historical sense, interior design sense combined with a homely environment. The staff are very welcoming and clearly have a very high standard of service. We will certainly go again, next we go home! Anniek

"Nice hotel, friendly and helpful staff "
I read a lot about the noise from the train station near to the hotel. I have heard maybe 3 to 4 trains for a time of a couple of minutes in my 3 days stay. I found that level of noise not disturbing at all. Because otherwise the hotel an the surrounding of the hotel was absolute quiet.

Pocket Guide: East Flanders Ghent Hotels

The heart and soul of Ghent is the picture-perfect, car-free Old Town. Tour boats ply the Lys River, with the medieval guild houses of Graslei and Korenlei streets casting their reflections upon the placid waters. St. Bavo's Cathedral houses the magnificent Lamb of God altarpiece, painted by the van Eyck brothers in the 1400s. The Gravensteen Castle, built in the 1100s, is another must-see.
