This was our first stay at Hawthorn suites, the full kitchen was really nice for myself my wife and daughter. It was an excellent location on beltline Avenue just off 28th St. so easy to get anywhere. The only downfall we could see was the buildings could use some maintenance love, it appears to have been renovated semi recently but not well cared for. The pool was the most neglected with the bonding wire running to the hcap lift that had originally been shallow embedded in the deck surface, this wire was laying on the deck and a real trip hazard. There was a damaged spot in the marcite pool which looked like it could certainly cut a toe, we just avoided that area, the rungs on the ladder at the shallow end were very loose, I tightened the nuts as best I could with my fingers so they didn't come off. Being the facilities mgr and a cpo at a resort hotel for over 20 years I look with a more critical eye but things like the ladder and bonding wire are serious safety issues that could lead to injuries. If the area is walked, inspected and repaired daily as it should be this wouldn't be a problem. The ladder is a 5 min fix......the bonding wire isn't a hard fix either, the damaged marcite in the pool will require the pool to be drained but still needs attention for guest safety. This all being said we will be back, we really liked the room, staff was nice, room was clean, breakfast was good and they even provide dinner, not gourmet by any means but a great amenity.

We stayed here for a soccer tournament and hotel was close to expressways and roads we needed to access. a lot of shopping and restaurants nearby. The only downside was that breakfast was not included in cost and restaurant was a bit obscure (no menu posted, etc) the continental breakfast was not refilled for those who rise a little later. All said, I would stay here again.

Nice but busy hotel. One major character flaw, though.....If you want to utilize the toilet, you cannot sit on the throne all the way as the toilet paper holder was installed too low and gets in the way. Annoying and frustrating. Our room keys lost their info and we had to walk all the way back to the front desk to get them recharged. That also was annoying as we returned late in the evening. Friendly helpful staff if you don't intend to use the facilities.
