"Nice Hotel in a Great Area"
I had a great stay at The Sofia. The only complaints I have are that the pillows were very overly stuffed and sort of hard. I also did not like the staff at the restaurant connected to the hotel.

"nice hotel with great location"
This hotel was convenient because I needed to attend a conference at the Convention Center. Parking too expensive but you can save a little if you park about one block away in another parking lot.

"Birthday/Thanksgiving Trip"
Staff was fantastic!!! Our room was very spacious for the Grandbaby to play around in and we had wonderful view. Mary Janes served great breakfast so we didn’t have to go far. Only complaint was the Saturday Night crowd in elevator and halls at 2:30-4:30 am but Front Desk said security was working on it as we spoke. They can’t control inconsiderate people. Second time staying there and plan to do again in fall of 2018. 👍

"Great location"
.Lived the location for a first visit to San Diego. Hotel staff was friendly and very helpfu.l. Only reason for less than an all 5 review is that breakfast area was small and had to get coffee for the room coffee maker from the front desk twice because housekeeping didn't leave any.

"Cool, restored old building"
I knew the Gaslamp Plaza was in an old part of the city which was fine. They've done a nice job of restoring it to be a modern hotel. Everything worked fine and the staff was as nice as could be. Things I didn't like: I'm not used to paying for valet parking every night but there wasn't much choice. Any other parking lot nearby would have cost as much or more. The rooftop breakfast was fine for free but hey, how about adding a waffle maker? We asked for a high floor away from the street but that didn't help to lessen the noise from nearby bars. Apparently this is in a popular nighttime area. If you plan to stay out late you'll have no problem here.

"Great hotel, lovely outdoor pool area"
I had a pretty good stay that could have been improved: Positives Huge rooms, very clean, great Friendly welcome Super helpful front desk Loved free tea and coffee in mornings in lobby Pool deck area is wonderful! Lovely design, nice lounging area. Daily housekeeping good with nice notes :) Small but functional gym Could improve - Dark rooms, they are nowhere as near as light as the light filled rooms in the pictures. Heavy dark decor. -Room service very expensive and food was poor quality. I asked for a burger with chicken instead of beef. I got a burger with small chicken pieces that was completely soggy on the bottom & cost over $35 total. -Room noisy because of adjoining door to room next door. I had to get moved in the end and it was a 3 hour process to move everything and find a quiet room which took up the whole evening. The hotel did offer to compensate me and found me a good quiet room in the end (the jacuzzi bath is fab!) -Housekeeping were always engaged when I tried to call. Took a personal item by mistake (hotel reimbursed for this) - Lobby area dark. Felt anonymous. I stayed for 6 days but didn't get to know any of the staff. - Porters at front varied in friendliness and quality of help.

"Perfect location, walking distance from Gaslamp "
Excellent location if you plan on exploring the what Gaslamp has to offer. Day Or night. The Hotel was very clean, staff was great. They even had the housekeeper send a text to make sure we had everything we needed after we checked in . The room was great as well. The only thing I would change is the location of the TV, it’s in a very awkward spot. Overall, a great stay. I would stay there again.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
