"convenient location, plenty of parking"
friendly helpful staff. carpets and walls beginning to show signs of wear. Didn't expect to pay extra for a swim so didn't use the pool. Good, value for money breakfast.

"Convenient location"
The Gilson is a budget hotel which I booked for price and convenience. It is very centrally located in Hull just a few minutes walk from the railway station and 10 minutes walk from the hospital. Having read previous reviews I booked a double room paying a little extra for the added space. My room was at the back and although there was no road noise there was quite a lot of noise from the ventilation unit but this did stop in time for me to get a good night's sleep. The rooms are basic but there is free wifi, the bed was comfortable although the duvet was a little heavy, and the breakfast was adequate. The staff were pleasant and helpful. I did not expect the Ritz for what I paid and did not get the Ritz but on the other hand for a city centre hotel it is hard to beat on price and the facilities are perfectly adequate particularly if travelling on a budget.

"very scenic location "
The location of the hotel was fantastic if you are interested in nature/birdwatching. The food at the restaurant on site is reasonable priced and we got up early in the morning and it was lovely in the reserve next door. It is a remote location in terms of other things to do, but it would not be difficult to walk to Barton . However be careful about getting back-when we were there the gate to the footpath was locked a lot earlier than the 10pm advertised - if we'd had a mobile out with us I expect we could have rung and got them to unlock it, but as it was it was a good twenty minutes to walk round on the road.

"Close to the train station and city center is only"
Me and my son stayed for 3 nights. We decided not to have breakfast because at £8 each it seemed quite expensive. On the 3rd night went to tuck my son into bed and saw some brown stains on his duvet sheet. It was about 11pm and went to talk to a member of staff. They sent the night manager to my room to take a look and he apologised profusely and changed the duvet cover immediately. He then offered us both a free complimentary breakfast which we gladly accepted. He was very polite and apologetic and said it's not the usual standard. We was happy with the breakfast but was right about it not being worth £8 but all in all it was a nice place, a little outdated but nice and comfy.

"Enjoyable stay near the sea"
The hotel was very nice, our only concern was the service at the bar for food and drink. It took a long time to get served, it wasn't busy just the service was very slow. This definitely needs looking at.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your East Riding of Yorkshire hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
