The Norfolk Royale Hotel

Richmond Hill, Bournemouth - Map
"Very good, ideally located right in the centre "
Stayed in the Norfolk Royale several times over the last decade, I usually always stay here when in Bournemouth if I can as it's right in the centre, walking distance from all the shops, seafront and buses to all local areas. It's not a trendy modern hotel, so don't choose to stay here if you're looking for a boutique hotel. The Norfolk is a classic style old historical hotel, a favourite with the older generation who often come here to enjoy the popular afternoon tea served in the comfortable lobby lounge area. I booked a single room, but was given a really nice newly refurbished double bedroom, which had a mini bar and new decor to the other rooms I'd stayed in on previous visits. It was very nice indeed, Molton Brown toiletries, too. The only problem I had was that the walls were very thin, in the morning I could hear the women next door having a shower and talking to her husband even which wearing ear plugs! One reason why I choose to stay here is that I use the swimming pool in the morning, doesn't usually get very busy which is good. There is also a steam room, sauna and jacuzzi and a small gym. Only a few other hotels in the centre have leisure facilities and I've used a few others, but I still prefer the facilities here. The staff are always very friendly, too. I haven't had breakfast here for years as it wasn't included in room rate this time, but there are plenty of cheaper places to eat nearby. I will be back here again without a doubt.

"Ruby Wedding Anniversary treat."
We booked this break to celebrate our 40th Anniversary. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. We used the pool and sauna/steam room/jaccuzzi. One thing to be aware of is the steam room and sauna take a while to get going so set them going before you change in the changing rooms if you want to use them first. Our room though compact was clean and quiet (it was in the rear of the hotel). The evening entertainment was good though geared to the 'more traditionally mature' residents so we discovered the excellent Hop Inn nearby and just had nightcaps in the hotel. The hotel is a bit of a climb from the town - a factor for those less physically able but is possible to minimalise the route by using backstreets rather than the more obvious route. All in all this is a hotel that we would use again were we in the area.

"Excellent hotel apart from......"
The water pressure! After reading other reviews it seems to affect all floors. We couldn't take a shower in our room as the water was no better than a dribble, this really needs to be addressed. Apart from that all else would be highly recommended.

"Pleasant stay in a comfortable hotel. "
Friendly check in service. Not so friendly was £10 a night charge to park in their car park. Room was clean fresh and well appointed. Slightly disappointing was that the bedroom windows refused to shut due to them being very old crittal single glazed frames and the hinges were totally siezed due to layer upon layer of paint over probably 30 years. Fine in summer when the weather is warm but in October it did mean the room got quite cold at night. Restaurant food, as well as the range of choices, was good but on the dear side. The bar prices for drinks, hot beverages and snacks were expensive - £3.25 for a cappuccino, £5.95 for a glass of wine and £6 plus for a G&T. Despite this we would go again to this hotel but probably park the car on Merrick road where parking charges only apply 9am to 5pm

"A very nice hotel with polite helpful staff."
We had a 2 night stay at the hotel and it was perfect for our needs. The room was spacious and clean and the staff were very helpful. The hotel is situated on the outskirts of Bournemouth near the hospital but we found the bus services excellent and very good value for money We seemed to pay £2.40 each wherever we went whether it was to town or Poole Quay. The only minor thing was because we booked through Expedia and not direct with the hotel we would have had to pay £5.00 each to use the pool and leisure facilities. I would have thought that this should be free to all residents. Although it didn't effect our stay because the pool was out of use anyway. We didn't eat at the hotel so unable to comment on the food.

"modern, clean hotel"
Stayed here for one night. The room was fine, though I don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel room with laminate flooring rather than carpet! Tea and coffee facilities provided, and fresh milk from reception when I asked. Breakfast was all self service and was fine. Location was good in that we walked down the hill to the pier and beach in about ten minutes. You can also get to the shops and gardens on foot (NB it's a little hilly!) easily and there are a few restaurants very close by. The bed was a regular double and was clean though not luxurious. We had a walk in shower, decent towels and shower gel/ hand soap provided via large dispensers. The staff we encountered were very friendly. I would stay here again for a short break.

"Bournemouth sea front"
The plus side for this hotel is the sea front position, good lounge and eating areas, and a lovely spa pool. It does not make it clear from the booking process that parking costs an extra £20.00 per night. The first night we were in rooms that were very noisy due to a generator running 24/7 above the room. I asked to be moved, and luckily we were to a much quieter room. Overall we had a good stay though, and the pool is fantastic.

Dorset is calling — find the perfect hotel

Everyone wants to score a deal on travel, but price is just one factor to consider when booking an unforgettable hotel. Whether you’re visiting family, attending a conference or taking a well-earned vacation in Dorset, having an awesome experience should be a no-brainer.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Dorset hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
