We had the hotel pretty much to ourselves this time of year. Great downtown location for easy walks to the shops. Housekeeping requests were answered promptly. We had a corner suite with great view of the channel. The decor is dated, but comfortable. Don't miss breakfast at the Capital Grill!

Good hotel. Good amenities. Internet is free but unsecured and not terribly fast but works. Bed way too soft for most. Very clean and housekeeping very good. Carpet could use a shampoo but considering it was snowing and winter and door is direct to parking lot, understandable that dirt gets tracked on. Overall I'll stay here again. Oh did I mention great price? Big bang for the buck.

Expedia paperwork told me that check in and check out was at 3pm. Odd I thought, but whatever. go with demands. Come day of check out, my group had planned our day around check out. We had ALL DAY to wait for our late late flight back home. with the 3pm check out, we were kind of happy with, so that we wouldn't have to be in the rental car for so long. I was on my way back to the hotel and one of my employees called to tell me that they are literally kicking them out of their rooms and that check out was at noon...I made my way there and went straight up to the hotel clerk and told her that my paperwork states 3pm. I had asked her to check with Expedia, because we had planned our day around the times that was given to us. The lady was very nice and took care of the issue while I ran to my room and throw everything into my suitcase...ugh. the lady did apologize when I dropped the key off. She was nice.
We did like the fact that the rooms have actual KEYS and not cards! every employee of mine complimented on that aspect! very convenient to have a bar and restaurant within the hotel and parking was great. We also liked the "porch" that we had outside our window. was a fun feature and was great for my cigarette smoker in the bunch.
overall, great staff, clean rooms and spacious. good review, besides the hiccup. I was told that because Gold Medal was playing in town, that the hotel was filling up and so that was why they were practically kicking us out. not cool.

We found the Gilmore to be clean and comfortable (new beds), however some rooms are better than others. It's an historic hotel built in 1927 and they have tried their best to renovate. We were lucky to have renovated room facing the waterfront. Rooms at the front of the hotel have more natural light than those at the back of the building.
The hotel also offers a shuttle service to airport ferry or AMH ferries.
Annabelle's restaurant is right next door and has good meals and Sweet Mermaids a few doors up makes great coffee and breakfast.

Only complaint is the restaurant end. I've worked in restaurants for a number of years, and customer service was a priority. Restaurant staff either are not properly trained, and/or management is to relaxed, and workers do what they want. 80 percent, when it was slow, disregarded tables or people wanting to be seated. Bread baskets had to be requested, where that should be automatic. Water had to be asked for, even after 3 servers walked past tables with empty glasses. Appetizers came out with the main course, as if telling customers hurry up and eat, and get out. Truly a unpleasant dining experience. No fault of the workers, just bad management. Employees and management talked so loud on the floor, one couldn't truly relax or think. And then they wonder why they aren't busier.

The location was good. The hotel is looking pretty tired in the rooms, bathrooms especially. They were decorated for Halloween which was cool, however they had motion activated "scare features" that become extremely annoying. We were sitting in the lobby trying to watch a game on the TV and every 15 seconds someone would set one off and all you heard was screaming. The last thing Ill add is the TV's were fuzzy on almost every channel. Some to the point that you couldn't watch the channel. If they got these issues fixed I would say this hotel would be a solid 3-3.5.
