"Best Location @ Windermere"
Closest to all attractions and on the lake with rooms having nice lake views. The twin rooms are spacious. Only thing the room's basent faucets are not mixer; so either have very cold or very hot water; not good for wadhoa or quick hand wash.

"Excellent location with stunning views."
A comfortable three night stay with my partner and dog. All made to feel very welcome. Room large and airy with stunning views towards the west. Decor a little tired in places but adequate overall. Staff helpful and hardworking but a little overstretched at breakfast during peak times. Breakfast generally good but some shortages of essentials such as porridge, scotch scones and marmalade! Overall a pleasant experience, we would be happy to return in the future.

"Nice hotel close to amenities"
Great hotel, a mixture of chalet bungalows and hotel style rooms. Unfortunately, we thought we had booked a chalet room (as we have always stayed in a chalet room) only to find we were shown to a room in the Lodge. Although the room was very comfortable the room decor was a little tired and in need of an update, I know that the chalet bungalows are at present being updated the Lodge has not yet recieved any updating. Staff were very friendly and helpful, as always, and we shall be visiting Burn Howe again. We found that the photograph of the room we booked on Expedia was not of the room we stayed in. Great central quiet location close to the lake and shops. We have recommended this hotel to our friends.

"Perfect!"
Absolutely lovely stay in an idyllic location. Enjoyed a beautiful walk, straight out the back of the B&B and up to ivy crag, then on to Elterwater. Also within easy reach of both Ambleside and Grasmere. Our room was stunning, the food was delicious and the staff were ever friendly - just perfect!

"Made our anniversary weekend perfect, wonderful. "
If I was forced to find anything less than perfect about our weekend, I would struggle. The room was a little too hot for my liking - but I like a cool room. Even though we had no sunshine on Friday and Saturday and it rained all day Sunday, we literally never noticed due to the fantastic welcome, facilities, historical beauty of the hall and astounding scenery right up to the doorstep. Every single member of staff was professional to the core, friendly, personable, efficient and attentive. I dislike fawning service and scripted responses, these staff are themselves, highly trained, proud of their standards and every one of them able to make you feel really special, nothing was too much trouble. The surroundings are exceedingly impressive, high class - from rooms to restaurant to lounge to cocktail bar to spa. Incidentally, the spa is a substantial cut above the rest, obviously a major investment here. We drank Prosecco served to us as we languished in the enormous outdoor hot tub with an infinity edge opening onto the woodland estate with rabbits playing on the grass just in front of us - I had to drag my wife away from this place at the end of our stay. Thank you everyone for a wonderful long weekend.

"Excellent spa and views"
Arriving and checking in was easy, great staff on reception. The hotel has amazing views and is in a really nice location, very quiet and peaceful. The hotel itself is maybe a little dated but all very clean and tidy so we didn't mind that. The spa was very modern and facilities great. Hot tub is fantastic with its view over the lake. The room was modern enough with everything we needed. The only thing was we ordered a double room and the beds were in fact two singles pushed together. I understand that if the hotel was full they might not have had any double beds left but it was a thurday night. We ate at the restaurant due to our booking being half board, the dessert was amazing! The other courses however I found to be average, the started both came out over cooked and greasy. The main course was ruined in my option, we both order fillet stake and paid extra for this. The steak came out cooked to how we liked it however the chef felt the need to poor half a gallon of peppercorn save all over the steak. In a way this ruined the meal for us, neither of us like that much sauce and it had oil on the surface of it too. Surely anywhere you eat steak they serve the sauce separately? if the meal hadn't of been included I wouldn't have been happy paying £35 each for it.

"Great place to stay"
Lovely traditional, family run hotel with friendly staff and great food in the restaurant. We were upgraded to a suite which was huge and very well appointed. All in all had a lovely stay with great service throughout. The only problem we encountered was outside the control of the hotel, but they are working with the local community to solve ongoing issues with local youths tearing around the town in high powered vehicles. I'm confident this will cease in the near future and this shouldn't put you off trying The Tufton Arms.

Cumbria is calling — find the perfect hotel

Everyone wants to score a deal on travel, but price is just one factor to consider when booking an unforgettable hotel. Whether you’re visiting family, attending a conference or taking a well-earned vacation in Cumbria, having an awesome experience should be a no-brainer.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Cumbria hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
