I had stayed here once before and brought kids back for 21st Birthday celebration. It was closer, cheaper, smaller environment for first time casino experience. We could easily keep up with each other and had a wide variety of casino type games to play. It was perfect environment to teach them BlackJack, Roulette, Dog Racing, and slots without being intimidated. The Casino staff was very nice and so willing to teach them how to play. The hotel staff was very pleasant and efficient in checking us in and out. Even the maintenance personnel would would gladly say hello. Free breakfast was excellent and wide variety to start you day. Being able to join the Players Club without being a High Roller was a nice benefit and worth joining for the benefits. I only gambled 1 1/2 days and spent under $200 total and earned enough points for a free meal. I really enjoyed the dog races, with covered pavilion, bar, experienced/efficient dog ticket personnel. Restaurant personnel were very friendly and accommodating for our group of 8. They were quick and the food was very good and well priced. My only suggestion is for security to be briefed on Va residents with vertical licenses. Our licenses will be vertical until it is renewed, which means a person can be over 21 with a vertical license. All four of my kids where unnecessarily scrutinized during security checks coming into casino and at bar. I understand the importance, but can be improved.

The renovations are so nice. The rooms are very neat and clean . The pool is great. I think it would be better to do away with the breakfast all together than expect people to pay for it. Because barely anyone got breakfast the food wasn't fresh. There wasn't a big enough turn over with the food. It made a lot of people mad and I felt bad for the workers who had to tell the customers they had to pay for breakfast. Everything is so nice about this hotel, the rooms, staff and pool, they need to just do away with the breakfast if they aren't going to give it away free.

Stayed three nights. Bathrooms were larger than expected. The room was very comfortable and staff was very welcoming and accommodating. Will definitely stay when I return to South Charleston, WV later this year.
