Nobody would accuse Hotel Sacher of being cheap, but if you'd like to treat yourself to a touch of old fashioned luxury then I couldn't recommend the hotel highly enough. The bar prices are a bit steep, but the staff are incredibly helpful and attentive.

The room was very small. I believe that I could expect better from a hotel of that rating. The public rooms were much better quality.
One of the lights, in an already dim room, was broken the whole time I was there.
The worst thing and the reason I am so unhappy, was the lack of any ventilation in the bathroom. As you would expect, everything fogged up but the worst thing was the smell. Whenever the toilet was used the smell was trapped unless one left the door open, opened the window, and went for a walk.

Hotel was in agreat location, really quiet area, safe and they even have a pet tortoise :) the staff were really helpful and polite - helped with taxi bookings and medical emergencies! location was perfect with the gardens just over the road which you lead you over the famous padlocked bridge to the old town. We were there only two days so needed everything within walking distance. Even walked to hellbrunn and this wasn't really that far, just over an hour through beautiful scenery - perfect if you want to hire bikes as not along a road so completely safe. The castle was close and probably around 30 mins through the old town - it's very steep so this is why it took longer to get there! the hotel have blackboards which give you the weather and temperature so you know what to expect, give you maps and can suggest where to go or eat. We didn't eat here but they made us feel welcome to do so. Any staff we encountered whether at reception or cleaning were very friendly. The room was clean and in good repair, no hot food or drinks permitted within but that helped keep it clean. Hotel was perfect for what we required as we like to make the most of our time in a city exploring all day and night with some where clean, quite, secure and comfy to rest. No added extras needed - kept basic but done to a high standard. Would stay again for a short break .

Hotel is lovely, comfortable, close to the water and a short walk from town. It fits the written description of a three star hotel better, because it is lovely outside and interesting inside, but doesn't have lots of upscale full-service extras. It is a quiet, relaxing, nice hotel and our group of eight people really enjoyed our stay.

Staff exceptional and spoke English well. quick check-in. Excellent breakfast buffet with bacon and eggs :-). Parking on street free from 7 pm to 9 am but not easy to find after 7. Parking garage across the street 13 Euro for the night. Room was spacious and appeared to have been remodeled recently. Felt safe. Drove downtown in 5 minutes but parking is a problem so it would be better to take a bus. Seems to be hard to get ice in Europe

This is by far the best European hotel we've stayed in. Service was personal, genuine, pleasant and certainly excellent in this beautifully maintained Schloss overlooking the city. We were upgraded to a suite on the top floor since this was a fairly slow couple of weeks in Salzburg. Staying on the terrace to read or have a bowl of soup or just a glass of water was pleasant and comfortable in the sunshine. Breakfast was a joy with plenty of choice and a view over the city.
We had the tasting menu one night. It was inventive and delicious served with care. We felt the food to be of a Michelin star standard. Yes, this is expensive, but it truly is value for money if you are lucky for something special.

Salzburg's Old Town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997. Its main shopping street, the Getreidegasse, is one of the busiest shopping streets in Europe. Mozart's Birthplace is also on this street and can be toured. Other top draws include the Salzburg Cathedral and the Hohensalzburg Castle, which towers above the Old Town, offering wonderful views of the city.
