The hotel is situated up a little hill from the pebble beach and Machico town centre. It's a 5 minute cab ride from Funchal airport so it's very convenient. The hotel is super basic. There's a mini fridge with nothing in it, and no room service. Information within the rooms is pretty scare, so we had to make do and figure things out as we went. The room was mostly clean, if a bit run down, and although clean the bathroom had various mold and staining issues. Towels were small and basic. The air conditioning unit was wonderful, and it was nice to have a balcony, even though we couldn't sit on it or have the door open as the person in the room next door was smoking constantly. Beds are pretty hard, not especially comfortable. Wi-fi is available within the reception and pool areas only.
Unfortunately the breakfast gave me food poisoning, which was pretty horrendous.
The hotel is fine if all you want is something very basic. It's not really a 4 star hotel, more like a 3 star.

This hotel is perfect for either an adult hotel stay or a self catering holiday. Plenty of food and refreshments available on the complex and lovely restaurants nearby with local supermarkets for self catering. Perfect transport links for getting into the capital Funchal and very reasonable cost if you stick to the buses. Taxis become very expensive.

"Good location but can be noisy if events going on"
Nice large room with balcony looking at Ocean. Rooftop terrace was great to relax but it was not busy so we were ok, but only 3 beds. Fridge had to be plugged in. We were charged for a night even though our plane could not land on the island due to bad weather.

Simple breakfast, without boiled or scrambled eggs, but plenty to eat. Onsite restaurant too.
Was able to lock my bag to the banister after checking out, otherwise left luggage is insecure in entrance hall.
Nice room and décor, nice bed, working shower, in centre, close to taxi roundabout, bus stop (E1.30 to airport), right next to fort which is on the beach. Convenient for bus station and supermarkets.
Only complaint was the cleaner breached my security by leaving my room door wide open and she was off the floor at the time. I trust the manager will take note of this.
You can take several day hikes from Machico, especially if you use buses. Stops display clear timetables.
Go to the beach and see the sunrise out of the ocean. 2mins if that.

A popular resort area, Caniço is on the southeastern coast of Madeira, a short drive from the capital city of Funchal. The clear waters of nearby Garajau Marine Park attract scuba divers, who are likely to see Atlantic manta rays and large fish species such as groupers. Several top-ranked golf courses are also within easy reach.
