"Nice stay"
Very nice hotel. Clean, comfortable rooms. Staff were polite and professional. Our room was nicely decorated. We had the city view, next time I would book the harbour view, city roads are a bit of a mess with the tram lines going in. Definitely book a room with the lounge access (which was excellent) where you can have breakfast . Normally breakfast is served in the restaurant but was closed due to renovations. Great location, skip and a jump to the wharf at Circular Quay with shops, restaurants etc.

"Nice hotel"
I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. On one issue, I had a problem with the manager who I felt was pretty rude to me. The next day, the lady at the front desk tried to make amends by offering me a complimentary shuttle to the airport w/no charge. This was a nice kind gesture to help offset the negative experience w/the manager the day before.

"Great refurbished hotel close to CBD Great views"
Just a short (2 night) stay - a fantastic room with a partial view over the harbour ... couldn't wish for more. Friendly helpful staff, front desk, concierge. Free Wi-Fi is fast and easy. Well done, I may make this my hotel of choice when I visit Sydney. My only complaint is that the kettle didn't work... had to ask twice for it to be replaced.

Hotel Challis

"Very convenient spot for one night in Sydney"
We stayed at the Challis for our last night in New South Wales. We had read about the rooms being very small so we took an Expedia special offer on a King Room and requested it to be quiet (as we had also read that some rooms can be noisy). We were very pleased with the room, which, although fairly small, was perfectly comfortable for our one night stay. The bathroom was narrow so the toilet was rather a squeeze but the shower was roomy and excellent. We were in a room looking out onto a courtyard area with a neighbouring school backing onto it. The room was quiet, with pleasant morning sounds of children playing in the distance. The location was excellent. We walked to the Kings Cross station very easily for a trip into the CBD and were able to take a very pleasant walk home in 10 minutes from the Art Gallery of NSW. There were terrific cafes and restaurants within easy walking distance. For breakfast, we walked about 1 minute up Challis Avenue to a little French cafe for a superb breakfast and great coffee. For dinner, we walked around until we found something that appealed to us - just the sort of locality we wanted.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
