I visited the hotel for a course and took the opportunity to stay and enjoy the spa. The bar downstairs is an excellent and inviting place to socialise (great for lone workers that many times have to stay overnight), the restaurant provided great food and great service (both my paid dinner and the food paid by the course provider for the attendees were enjoyable)
The spa is small but perfect for a relaxing time when there is not many people (specially shouting children who leave the plastic cups left for drinking water all around the place... I wonder where the supervisor adult was!) A separate room for the saunas and jacuzzi would have been a great idea.
The experience was overall really good, except for the cleaning person in the morning who open my bedroom at 8.30 uninvited (don't they have a record of who has checked out to organize their shift?

Very warm and friendly welcome, spacious comfortable room. Hotel had spacious outside grounds, and located conveniently on the outskirts of Ashford in a quiet location. The choice and quality of the breakfast was very good, will stay again.

For a solo female walker, pubs are a good accommodation option in rural locations over the winter months, as you do not have to go out in search of an evening meal on cold dark nights. I was pleased to find The Flying Horse at a convenient stopping point on the North Downs Way. Knowing that it would be dark before the normal check in time of 5pm, I contacted Ginny to see if I could check in earlier; that was no problem and I started to form a really good impression before I arrived. On arrival I got a friendly welcome and my room was lovely; spacious, stylish, very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was fabulous, with a huge freestanding bath. I went down for dinner early and the bar was quiet with some friendly locals. The menu is good and the food excellent. The steak pie was particularly good, cooked individually with high quality meat and delicious shortcrust pastry. Breakfast the following morning was equally good, well-cooked with high quality ingredients and superb coffee. All the staff and locals I met were very friendly and the place has a great atmosphere. Highly recommended, pity it's so far from home, I'd love it to be my local.

Lying in the heart of Kent, Ashford is a growing, rural town approximately 90 km southeast of England's bustling capital. Shopping lovers can marvel at the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet with its huge range of high-end stores. For a relaxing break, Godington House is a beautiful country estate and the perfect location to while away the time with a cream tea and a stroll through the gardens.
