Excellent hotel, glad we didn’t stay near Antwerp Central as it was quite a long way from the centre.1st time in Antwerp so headed for Info.Ctr. at Groen Plaats. Bought a City Card which gets you free entry to Kinneke Brewery,MAS building, other museums,Rubin’s House, buses, trams and metro.Antwerp’s quite compact so you can walk to a lot of places.we got the no.7 tram from Meirburg to MAS bldg,it stops right outside and is a very pretty area near the river and harbour. Walking back to the Cathedral area takes about 20 minutes by the river route.Food and drink is expensive but if you go to the restaurants behind the main square they have some two course offers with bread for £14.50.You can get excellent juicy steaks included in this offer at El Torro 1 and 2.If you like rock music,Kids 2000 has bands on some nights or piped rock music. If you’re on inclusive breakfast at Rubens you won’t need much for lunch, there’s loads of choice. As you enter reception there’s a big jar of apples you can help yourself to ,we just had one of those for lunch. If you need it there’s a small supermarket at Groen Plaats and a few small convenience stores near the square also a pharmacy near the hotel. You get a map when you check in,take it with you when you go out,it also has the metro lines at the bottom which came in very handy.Three nights, two full days was enough time for us to visit the places we wanted to see with the City Card.If you go to the MAS building go to the top for a fantastic city view

Very happy with our choice, great location with amazing staffs, all very helpful and friendly. Great for the value with lots of shops around, right next to the train station. All in all, a PERFECT hotel for our weekend trip :-)

I had a lovely time at this hotel. The modern décor was lovely. I appreciated the book about Antwerp in the room. They even give a 5 euro credit at the downstairs café if you forego having your room cleaned :) They were very accommodating to giving me a late check-out despite being fully booked that day.

This was an excellent hotel for the price. It's a seven minute walk to the train station, yet the neighborhood is quiet. It's around the corner from several interesting restaurants, including a Lebanese one that we went to twice!. A full-scale breakfast was included in the room price.

I recently stayed at the Van der Valk for four nights, and shall soon be staying there again.
All the staff I encountered, on Reception, Bar, Restaurant or at breakfast were extremely helpful and really very friendly.
The restaurant had a good menu and served good food and there was also a bar menu serving mainly hot dogs and burgers but these were home made and good. They offer a huge choice of, self service, breakfast.
They have free, very usable Wifi, and free ground level parking (quite unusual in Antwerp)
The only slight downside is the bedroom furniture. The bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean and comfortable and well appointed, but the furniture was a little tired. I believe they are in the process of updating this.
Great hotel, highly recommended.

Nice old building converted into a hotel. Reception is located on the 4th floor. Good location.
The room needed a little maintenance. The floor tiles in the shower room and vestibule were lose and the shower head needed a little work. But all in all an ok place.

Quick, easy check in after a long day of planes and trains.
Poor room maintenance, chipped and peeling paint, shoddy, ad-hoc furniture. Thin walls, light doors. Lots of noise from the halls and outside. Room key used to activate power in the room. Free wifi worked ok but required frequent sign-ins.
Overall; safe, cheap & cheerful. Good if you're looking for value and aren't worried about frills.
