My Wife and I had a very pleasant stay at the Lorien this past week. The hotel is located about a dozen blocks from the historic areas and waterfront attractions in Alexandria with shopping and restaurants of all styles in between. There is a free hop on, hop off trolley running from the Metro station about 3 blocks up, to the waterfront all day and into the evening. But timing is key with the Trolley and don't be surprised if a "full" trolley passes your stop during the peak times of the day! Overall I give this hotel 4 stars primarily due to a couple of things. The size of the "deluxe king suite" we had was very small, but still usable for a single or couple. The bathrooms were very spacious with a huge walk in shower, but the door to the bathroom was a big sliding glass door with large gaps when closed. Better not be too shy if sharing the room because you get very little privacy in there! Finally, no free internet? In this day and age, I would think free internet would be a given. Paying 12.95 a day for internet is very old school and something that could easily be provided complimentary. All this being said, this is a very nice hotel with polite and helpful staff and I would recommend it.

We looked for a hotel in the heart of Old Town Alexandria within walking distance of Carlyle House. This was it! From Hotel Monaco airport pick up on, we were treated very well. Love the lobby, great sofas, chairs, well placed tables with access to coffee and other drinks in the morning, candy stand and games in the afternoon, followed by wine and appetizers in the evening (for about 2 hours per event each day). In the room, we requested a rollaway bed. The bathroom was supplied with full size shampoo, conditioner and bathing gel. The closet was small, however, as we were only staying 2 nights, it was adequate for our needs. Questions asked were researched, if needed. Answers were complete.

Was give a smoking room despite of booking a non smoking. I was told due to the rates which I get on Expedia we have the last preference in room selection. I had stayed at 4 places all were a 3rd floor accommodation.

Needed to attend conference at the National Harbor Convention Center but did not want to pay outrageous room rates.

Eminently walkable, Old Town Alexandria offers a glimpse of early America through its 4,000 historic homes and businesses. Many visitors begin their tour at the Ramsey House Visitors Center, near the center of Old Town. One highlight is The Athenaeum art gallery, a Greek Revival structure where legendary Civil War Gen. Robert E. Lee once banked. Don’t miss Mount Vernon, George Washington’s estate.
