I will never stay at another Holiday Inn.
I got upset at the staff after a half hour, was told they would shuttle us to the fair grounds where we had a trade show. There was mostly people staying there from this trade show. Five of us got into the van then was told that wasn't in there area to transport. So we asked the front desk to call a cab and get a van, since there was five of us. We had two cabs that came and it was a car, so they wouldn't take us. We asked the guy at the front desk why didn't you tell them we needed a bigger cab for five of us. He said he never told them that. So after that I rated the hotel personal as poor. Now the next the thing that happened was not fun. I will admit that I had to much to drink, but I didn't think what they did was right. I was at the bar I asked the bartender for change for a twenty she gave me back five ones. I asked why she is only giving me five dollars back, her reply was I had a tab for $15.00 dollars. I said fine I need receipt,she said no and couldn't give me one. Will needles to say I got upset, and a little shame of myself how I handled this but really all I wanted was a receipt. So she told me to leave the bar. So we went to the front desk and told them what happened and asked if they could get the receipt, they where no help. They decode my room key. I feel the bartender stole that money and charged the drinks she said I owed on my salesman bill. I was going to leave her that as a tip. I only got into my room because we had joining rooms. The personal was really rude from the front desk and the woman bartender. So I will always go to another hotel chain then Holiday Inn now. I have always stayed at the Holiday Inn when I'm on the road or traveling. They have lost my business plus four others.

Don't Be Fooled
We are currently staying at this hotel and are NOT happy about it (night 1 of 3). Before booking, we called the hotel directly and were told to "ask for a renovated room" as the hotel is being updated. Upon check-in, we were told that "the lobby area is being updated, not the guestrooms." With optimism in mind (and no other choice), we went to our room to find it straight out of an episode of Mad Men which is not a compliment. More so, I mean that the room AND bathroom probably haven't changed since the hotel was built. By all appearances, this could have been during the 1950's. Let our experience be your guide; be guided somewhere else.

Its a dive
Tiny little rooms with bathrooms hardly big enough to stand in, no counter, interstate noise, rattling furnace/unit, cracked mirrors, tiny pool... not impressed. And for $150 a night! Only perk is location 4 blocks from iowa events center

Should read trip advisor first.
First of all, the manager was very nice and friendly. I thank him for the smile and helpfullness. I will start with the good: they have a shuttle that will take you pretty much anywhere, restaurants, The Capital, ect.The bad: the rooms very tiny, you can't adjust the heat, it was 77 degrees in our room the whole time and we shut it off and opened the window. (Thank goodness it opened 6 inches).The beds are the worst, none of us got sleep, too uncomfortable.The heater that ran every 15 min was loud and you heard water running through it, or something drippy. About once an hour a large pop would wake youthat sounded like a gun shot coming from the furnace.We were put on the quiet side, NOT facing the highway, because I heard that was terrible. But the hotel is right next to Mercy Hospital. Now we stayed on Thursday, so I bet the weekend is worse. We heard the ambulances ALL NIGHT. But maybe if we slept we would have slept through them.Between the heat, ambulances, AWEFUL beds, & popping furnace we were not comfortable.Now the construction, walking to the pool, make sure you have shoes, the screws are on the ground.The pool was nice for the kids, no hot tub, but never busy, so they enjoyed it. It had hair ties, bobby pins, and smashed food on the floor. It was never cleaned either day. The cleaning person walked in, but did not wash the ketchup off the table or smashed food on the floor, bobby pins, or hair ties.Now, the bar and restaurant are in a conference room, I guess the restaurant is also under construction. I will just say, I am sure it will be better when renovations are done. Pretty pricey.We almost always stay at Holiday Inn, this one is not like the others. Also the pictures of the rooms are not always the same as the actual furniture in the room, chairs ottomans, ect....Hope this help you make any choice you are making.

Drab construction site
I feel sorry for the staff because I can imagine they are doing their best and looking forward to the day when the renovation is complete. They were as nice and cordial as any HI. The lobby is a mess from the construction work, and the indoor garage was third world and dark, but I don't care about that too much. The rooms - not very soundproof, mildew on the windows, ac intake was matted with lint, furniture was scratched and lamp switches broken. On the upside, the carpet was new and the bathroom redone, new TV. It looks like some partial renovation happened, but still have the rusty vents and stains behind the mirror wall that creep me out. Clearly some work done, but a lot more to go. For the price you could stay in much nicer place..this is a problem with HI, properties inconsistent relative to the competition IMO.
