As a couple travelling from the South of England we called ahead on the morning of our trip to check whether the roads were clear in Buxton as weather reports were bad. The owner informed us that the main roads were fine. As we neared Buxton the roads were clearly NOT fine and were so BAD in fact that they were featured on national news!(see link below) We were forced to turn back by the weather to our disappointment. We called the lodge to inform them. We spent the next 6 weeks arguing over a refund which they initially promised to us. Numerous LONG phone calls were made via Expedia however the Alpine Lodge simply did not want to know. We were bitterly disappointed by this and felt let down as we had high hopes for the trip. As a couple we stayed at the Alpine Lodge guesthouse for 4 nights In that time we had the perfect break, no complaints whatsoever. Jean the owner was very pleasant to talk to and showed a genuine interest in where we went and the things we did, during our stay.The Alpine Lodge is in an ideal position, in a quiet area midway between the lower and upper town of Buxton. More shops and the famous opera house are in the lower town, but good eating places are in abundance in both areas. Our room was comfortable,nice and light, and very clean. As was the breakfast room, plus the food was excellent. Due to the snow at the time, we were unable to use the driveway, untill the last night. This was not a problem though as we always found a parking space, be it just outside or across the road. We are now looking forward to go back, for a short break later in the year.

Husband and I decided to take a quick break before the arrival if our first child and we couldn't have chosen better. Jean is a lovely welcoming host and we really felt at home, the room was bright comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was delicous and location was great for walking in to buxton centre. Will definitely be returning.

Needing a couple of days away and never having visited the Peak district we decided to go to Buxton and chose the Alpine Lodge because it was close to shops and restaurants. Our room at the top of the house was spacious, but with awkward angles and corners. The bed was under the window which was set high in the wall (giving no view) and we could feel a chill coming from it as the weather was very cold. Having said that the bed was large and comfortable. The bathroom was lovely and big with bath and double size shower. The decor was tasteful and the acommodation really clean. The breakfast was very good with ingredients sourced locally and Jean the owner has a good knowledge of the locality and local restaurants. There can be a bit of a problem to park close to the house, but all in all we enjoyed our stay.

The Alpine Lodge Guest house was very welcoming and situated in the heart of buxton. The facilities were excellent, with a spacious room and en suite to fulfil your every need. The house is very clean and tidy. The breakfast was delicious with a variety of options and served on time. One set back: a dog is living on the premises. Although it stays in the kitchen it may cause problems for people with allergies. Overall, I definitely recommend this guest house as it it great value for money and an enjoyable experience of part of the Peak District.
