Great staff, poor property
Wow. Judging by their website and Facebook page, this hotel is beautiful and majestic. However, it is actually a poorly maintained hotel. Cracks in the walls and ceilings, numerous light bulbs are out, dark corners and corridors, scary stairwells, and I actually saw a room numbered labeled by using plain white paper and scotch tape. On the mezzanine almost all the bulbs are out, and half of it is being used to poorly a sloppily store old furniture.

It's been a quick business trip and I needed a place that's reasonably close to my meetings & found The Historic Mayfair Hotel online for a reasonable price.The room was decent & clean, the staff super friendly and helpful , breakfast buffet good and presentable...It's close to everything you'll ever need on business trips to LA.One thing I was missing was a bar where I can relax after all day of meetings and business talk...I will be back!

Surprising stay
I stayed at The Mayfair Hotel for a quick trip to LA on business and found it on internet search. Its not in "the center of things" but it is close to everything. Only 10 minute walk to LA Live/Staples Center etc, but also close to downtown. The hotel obviously was at one time a very glorious grand hotel. No question the hotel is "tired" but everyone of the staff I came into contact with was genuinely helpful. Alot of international travelers I notice at their Buffet Breakfast. I will go back,

decent hotel in ok area
I spent the night here with two friends, we were on a budget so needed an affordable place to stay in LA for the night. The price was great, rooms were fine, not flash but clean and comfortable. The neighbourhood seemed a little questionable but we had no problems walking home late a night.

Its ancient
Its seriously old. Its not dirty per say, but since its so old its unclean. They have lampshades which are at least 50 years old. The bathroom is very very small with prehistoric bath fittings. These fittings have collected grime and stains over the years and hence look very dirty I had booked a queen bedroom and the room was fine for one person, but not for two. The walls are paper thin.The A/C so, noisy that I couldn't sleep the whole night, and it was not even effectively cooling the room. The neighborhood is questionable, though not dangerous. On the first night I went out to get some dinner and the only restaurant in the area was a Thai place. Tried it, didn't like it. So the next day I asked at the reception and they gave me the number of a Chinese place, that was decent. The location of the hotel is good though, its 10 mins walking distance from the red line metro and downtown. This hotel should be one of the last resorts for anybody trying to stay near LA downtown.
