We popped in during the day to reserve a table for dinner that evening. Told the barman we had a dog with us. They advised us that dogs are only allowed in the corner, and that we can't book a table. So, if we turned up later and someone was sat at the table, we couldn't eat. Unhelpful.The staff behind the bar looked miserable.The waitress just slapped the plates down on the table and didn't say a word.The food wasn't particularly any good. (Had a steak and ale pie... tasted funny, and meat was dry)The location is lovely, and the beer is good... but that's it.

Stunning location: the bar, restaurant and outdoor seating and many of the rooms overlook the Mawddach estuary north to the hills of Snowdonia. The rooms are clean and reasonably comfortable though dated, and there is a cosy residents' sitting room off the main bar in case the weather is not good enough to sit outside. Breakfast is good apart from the dreadful coffee, dinner less so (see separate review). Service a bit haphazard but friendly. Rooms in the annexe ( the old railway station) are cheaper than those in the main hotel and in summer would suffer less from noise from the bar and outside seating ( to judge from the quantity of outside seating, the place is extremely busy in high season), though you might find the fact that a busy footpath passes within feet of your window rather offputting.

Had heard mixed reviews but it was lovely and will go again, Great location, excellent food, friendly staff. Stayed in the Lodge - room large, huge bathroom (despite the slug in the shower!). Only problem concerned heating/hot water initially until we found out how it worked.

The 'staff wanted' sign by the entrance did worry us, but the rooms were well equipped, tea/coffe tray on low windowsill looking out across the estuary. Shame it was just a double bed but that's not a major problem. A bit slo service in the restaurant, but we were on a break - why rush good food and characterful staff. Great setting.

On 2nd May 2013 we were having a nice walk along the estuary and decided to call into this hotel for some tea and cake. I wasn't sure where to go so went into the bar area where there was no sign of any staff. When someone finally turned up I said that I was looking for a tea room only to be told abruptly that there was no tea room round here. I noticed a selection of pre packaged cakes on the bar so said I would have one of these with some tea and went and sat outside with my husband. Whilst there I witnessed the lady who was trying to sit on a picnic bench over the road and going to come into the hotel to buy some food/drink. The waitress served us and then said ''What are they doing over there'' and then disappeared. The tea was O.K. but a plate for the cake would have been very nice - I ended up eating it out of a wrapper.The staff seem to have a serious chip on their shoulder and I would prefer not to go here again.
