Terrible, terrible service
We spent a weekend at the Ashley hotel to get a bit of sunshine and explore the Calabria region. So first, the pros: * Really nice hotel, very nice lobby, pool area and spacious rooms* 5 minute walk to the beach, which was surprisingly nice* Really close to the airport, 15 euro cab ride (nothing else around though)Cons: It all boils down to terrible, terrible service: * Aircon really doesn't work. After complaining about it, we were given a 5 minute lecture on how the air really wasn't hot. Well we thought it was hot! We did not sleep well at all. The cleaning lady (only friendly person in the whole place) had to tell the receptionist/manager that another room really was cooler and that we should change rooms. Finally she agreed. Aircon worked great... for a couple of hours. Then back to boiling hot.* No good mornings, no hellos. It seems like there are only 4 or so employees in total and they all seem absolutely miserable. Every question or request was an annoyance. We did not feel welcome at all. Conclusion: it's a shame that such a nice property is managed by such unprofessional staff. I would love to make this a top destination for quick holidays, but I don't think I can put up with the poor treatment we received from the staff. So unfortunately, no more Ashley for me. Unless you know your way around, only need a nice place to sleep / swim and don't mind paying for but not having aircon, look elsewhere.

Rude, unprofessional, unaccommodating Owner/Management
First, no porter for baggage from car after long drive. No parking signage or guidance. The hotel is located in a dumpy, maze-like area disconnected from all of the surrounding community. Ocean view? Maybe with binoculars. The decor was tacky, sepulchral, with a lack of any genuineness at all. After we were checked in and shown to our room by the thin, young female housekeeper trying to help with our bags as the reception desk clerk stood there, we were soon summoned back to the desk and told that there was some misunderstanding and that our tiny dachshunds could not stay with us. Although we've stayed in the finest hotels all over Europe with our dogs welcome everywhere, Hotel Ashley would not yield to any reason and the owner/manager refused to even speak to us. We arrived at 4:00pm and were there for 1 night as stop over only between the Amalfi Coast and Sicily. Rather than accommodate us for the few hours we would be there, the owner/manager instructed his underlings to put us on the street. I offered to pay twice the price for my jr.suite, to buy every other guest (of which there were only 4 in the entire 55 room hotel) a bottle of champagne and to pay a supplemental fee for the dogs. No compromise was possible. No attempt was made to meet our needs. If you favor 4 or 5-star hotels, understand that the Ashley is NOT a high class hotel. It is, for lack of a better word, a fraud. The desk clerk was not multilingual, and all services required extra fees. We usually don't mind paying for anything we depend on, but this hotelier was an amateur.Don't ruin your trip by staying at this place. It's not a diamond in the rough, it's a cubic zirconia.
