totally dated but we enjoyed it anyway
Very close to Fiumicino - we arrived in the evening and rented a car in the airport and didn't wanted to spend the night in Rome since we had planned to head south for the Sorrento area. We actually stayed for 2 night because the rate was very fair, we stayed with our two boys in the annex with a lovely sea view. Of course the hotel is very dated, and the annex is in fact a concrete nightmare but anyway, we enjoyed it - the boys could play football outside and play on the beach while we were relaxing on the balcony and kept an eye on them. On night number 2 a lot of school kids arrived and they were of course noisy but the reception told us that if the noise would be a problem they could offer us a superiour room in the old part of the hotel in stead of the annex. Breakfast was poor. I wouldn't stay here for a holiday in Rome - but maybe if I wanted to take a day trip to Rome. But a nice pit stop if you are landing in Rome and heading south

Maybe Better During the High Season
I was at this hotel during a business stay in the area. It is a well worn property, the halls are dark, and carpets stained. The balcony is corroded from the sea air and what used to be a flower pot was crumbling onto the deck. This hotel caters to a summer tourist crowd and in the winter it is almost empty. There was no breakfast to speak of, ony a couple of day old rolls and a surly attendant who seemed put out to have to serve his 2 or 3 customers. I would recommend that you check out some other place, but it would appear that all of the establishments in the area are basically operating under the same conditions.

Look Beyond
We stayed at this hotel during a visit to family in Anzio. The directions to get there by train do not tell you that the station suggested, Anzio Colonia, has a long downward flight of steps that are difficult to negotiate with luggage let alone as in my case limited mobility.Other passengers struggled to also get down to street level. We would suggest that anyone arriving by train goes to Anzio Centre and gets a taxi out to the hotel. The hotel is very smart on the outside and also in the entrance which is grandly finished. The reception staff appeared friendly and on the whole helpful with the exception of one male member of staff. The restaurant was pleasant, the evening food menu good and the food was fresh and well presented. The breakfast varied from having a good choice some mornings to indifferent on others. The restaurant staff were very helpful throughout our stay. Our room was in the annexe with sea views and was spacious but required a re-vamp as it was tired looking and dusty. The swimming pool looked clean and inviting although we did not use it and the beach staff worked hard to prepare the sun beds and sand each day.We did have a mis-hap when a large section of pressed steel door surround fell on one of us striking an arm which caused some marked bruising.Although after reporting it they replaced this with UPVC we did not receive any apology or offer of compensation of any sort. This hotel is more three star than four and the annexe rooms rate only two stars.

boring lunch, kindly served
We didn't stay in the hotel, but had lunch in their dark, old-fashioned dining room since they no longer use the sunny terrace after 15 September, however glorious the weather. The stuffy wallpaper and hushed atmosphere reminded me of gloomy British seaside B&Bs I experineced in the 1980s, but the waiter was so nice and helpful I'm giving the restaurant an average rating. The food certainly wouldn't deserve it. Again, it evoked sad full board lodgings fare: a mandatory "salad" (lettuce, grated carrot, anaemic tomato and onion rings) you have to dress yourself from poor quality olive oil and deadly vinegar; overcooked risotto with a few prawns (but they tasted great) tinted yellow with some cheap saffron ersatz; to be fair, my daughter's grilled flat fish (the menu said turbot but as I've never seen such a small turbot I assume it was something else) was fresh and delicious, and my baked octopus was very good. Our friend's spaghetti with clams, however, was bland and contained very few clams. It was cheap, the waiter kindly let us stay well after closing time in order to give the baby his bottle and looked after us very attentively and at the same time unobtrusively, and the food was okay really, just a bit boring.

Family of 6
We have 4 children and stayed one night at Grand Hotel Dei Cesari while on vacation. We had to rent two rooms even though the rooms are large enough to hold 6 people. The rooms are large enough that we would have been thrilled to pay some extra and bring in a cot to hold our additional children. The air conditioners in both rooms were not producing cool air, just the faint sound of a fan. The staff allowed us to stay until 1 pm to check out so that we could utilize the beach and pool -- which was great. On the downside, the hotel staff would not help an older guest to understand how rental cars are returned to FCO (stated he should speak with a police officer once he arrives at the airport rather than tell him to look for "Rental Car Return"). Service does not mean telling to customer to ask someone else and that is the main criticism I have of the hotel. I
